Laser Performance UK announcement on Facebook

Horizon already posted that in the C5 thread, and yes, there's material for several new ones. LP's countermove "ARC" rig is best discussed together with PSA's C rigs, but what really caught my eye and which needs to be handled separately was the passage,

"...an onslaught of litigation and legal challenges from the International Laser Class Association in coordination with Bruce Kirby and his Australian partners at the Performance Sailcraft Pty group. Ironically, there seems to be a continuing desire to attack and claim our intellectual property assets by these parties whilst insisting that they want our support to fund their activities and maintaining the Olympic status of the Laser boats. The result of these remarkable and spurious challenges has been a diversion of millions of dollars into legal fees..."

Emphases mine. Does anyone know what is really going on? Has there been any talk about this anywhere else? Are there any public records? On the surface, it looks like the previous court case, except that ILCA has now changed sides! (And no one's suing WS, maybe.) Is this a continuation of the good old  "All about to kick off" thread? :D

(Thieuster, you said earlier that you maybe didn't want to know what happened in the recent past of the class... but if you do, it was that.)

All right, they explained this one, too! (For their part at least.)

"ILCA is not a party to any lawsuit against any person, entity or builder, including Laser Performance..."

"ILCA understands that the lawsuit in Connecticut is ongoing, but strongly denies that we have caused any other party to incur legal expenses, large or small, because of lawsuits brought by the class."

I'm not sure I agree with all that. The ILCA was initially very much on the side of LP and against PSA and Kirby. Remember the vote?

That was then. This is now. The previous round of court cases finished over two years ago, and it appears that ILCA isn't at least directly involved this time. I trust their word more than LP's.

I see this just as a continuation. LP has been more about themselves for a decade, from the licencing, to the supply chain etc. At the time when licencing issue arose even in Australia, PSA was made out to be the bad guys and LP was the one being dealt with harshly, but even then people were complaining about the supply chain, boat quality etc.
