Spun Yarn: Insights into becoming a better C14 sailor // Heavy Weather Sailing

Trailer wheels I bought them from JC Whitney, tires mounted on wheels, ready to go. Just like changing a tire on a car, jack up one side and do it, then the other. Takes only minutes. And the new wheels and tires where an instant enhancement, visually, as well as a safer tow.

how to fill the mast with foam

So the front edge fabric of the mast head float goes into the mast slot along with the bolt rope? I would not have guessed. I'll post when I try it. Thanks also for the stainless stirrup and web strap idea. I'm still pondering this one...

how to fill the mast with foam

Transom Stirrup As part of my preparations for capsizing and turtle testing, I'd like to add a transom stirrup for remounting the beast. I've seen a couple of ideas for that, including a plastic stirrup on a rope. Is there anything else out there for a transom stirrup that can be easily...

how to fill the mast with foam

Turtle testing It'll be May or June before I get to turtle testing the mast mods. If I get really ambitious, I'll test it first with top end plug only, then again with top and bottom plugs, and of course finally with the mast head float attached, if I can figure out how to deploy it...

how to fill the mast with foam

Mast head float I called Dani at Catalina just last week and ordered my mast head float, part # 15629 for $180.00. That plus a foam plug top and bottom of the mast is my intention for keeping the mast head out of the muck. Of course it'll be a few months before I can report. This is NH, it was...

Winter reading Boy, as a novice, Nashua NH-based trailer sailer, I'm finding this and other articles on this forum great winter reading. Please keep it coming. I acquired my 1983 14.2, ser. no. 8, in December, and am planning a spring launch. New wheels and tires for the trailer, and new lines...

    mooring the Capri

Stowing the anchor My new '83 Capri ser. no. 8 is locked in ice and snow at the moment. Planning ahead for spring, I'll probably opt for a mushroom anchor for light duty, but in light of the threads about capsizing, turtling, etc., where/how do you stow an anchor in the cuddy so that it doesn't...

    Capri 14.2 Mod 1 1986 Manual Attached

83? I'm a newbie. My newly acquired 14.2 looks to be serial no. 8, from 1983. Guess that's an early one? The manual is a great help. The boat and sails are in good shape but the boat needs cleaning and in particular the bottom needs prep and repainting. I'll be sailing in fresh water. Any...
