Pulled out cleat, do I have to cut port to fix?

Old screw sheared off and ripped out the other. Going to marine Tex the old holes. How big is backing around cleat? Not sure how close to original location I should install new one.

Replacing halyard pulley with fairlead. Can I use toggle?

Thank you. Hoping it’s still attached.

Replacing halyard pulley with fairlead. Can I use toggle?

Seems like there’s a lot of stress on that. Don’t feel like screwing into deck is strong enough even though that’s how it was from factory. Boat is old and not sure of shape of core. Question: since I don’t want to cut inspection port to back, can I use stainless toggle bolts? Bed down with...

    PVC diameter and strength

My Google engineering degree comes up with this. At 40” span with supports, sched 40 1.5” is rated to hold 143# per table 3 https://www.wheatland.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Schedule-40-Seismic-Sway-Bracing-Tables.pdf Not sure I’d go the 1.5” pvc route as main supports. Lumber came way down...

    PVC diameter and strength

Could use threaded 1” black pipe and pipe foam. Pretty cheap. Baller would be speed rail. I’d be worried just having glue joints using pvc. You’re looking at about 8-900lbs up in the air.

Got the bug. First trip out yesterday.

As I’ve never raced yet, you bet I want to improve my results :) Personal test to see if I can be competitive against people who have been sailing their entire lives if I focus on tactics and prep. Not trying to win but not trying to be last. Have good understanding of wind from surfing and...

Got the bug. First trip out yesterday.

I meant the blades. I have a north sails racing sail that’s pretty crispy. Would you say daggerboard or rudder is more important upgrade?

Got the bug. First trip out yesterday.

Price difference between class legal and rec is crazy on sunfish direct. It’s same thing, guessing they have to pay licensing fee.

How much of a gap should there be between sail and spars? Used to tying on opti so assumed it should be tight like that. Thanks!

Got the bug. First trip out yesterday.

Thank you! I have all the stuff to add outhaul and Cunningham. Will adjust everything else as well. Just wanted to get a feel for her. What’s the vibration when going fast? Felt like daggerboard in slot maybe. On the hunt for frp boards. Don’t want to pay more than I did for the boat for blades.

Got the bug. First trip out yesterday.

It’s been either way too windy or raining since I got my boat. Finally got out yesterday before wind started cranking. Spent 2 hours sailing back and forth across bay and using buoys as marks. Sore and tired now. Sloppy tacks but I’ll get better as I get used to passing extension and main. Can’t...

    New boat - Rigging question

Thanks! I have a hiking strap, need to replace it though.

    New boat - Rigging question

Races cancelled, grrrrrr. Didn’t even start blowing hard until way later. I like the idea of double halyard as I’m on the smaller side. Would be nice to be able to depower. Our conditions are regularly over 15. They took optis out at bellport to 25+

    New boat - Rigging question

http://www.dinghyshop.com/product/DS57478.html My understanding is you untie top halyard so you can lower top spar to depower rig. If you’re using halyard for vang would you have to untie whole thing or just use bottom halyard for vang?

    Cunningham and outhaul questions

Cleats are supposed to be riveted on starboard side of boom. Read conflicting things about stainless or aluminum rivets. Cleats are aluminum. Also, should I untie whole sail and get spars really smooth or is there not much movement fore and aft? Thanks!
