Anyone else with a 14.2 in Santa Barbara?

Yep, you're going to have to spend money. You can either buy a used trailer for a few hundred dollars (I see them on craigslist from time to time) and adjust the bunks to fit the boat. The other option is you replace the axles and springs on your old trailer. I'd do whatever is cheaper. My...

    1990 Capri 14.2 Refit

Looks like you've got your work cut out for you, but they're great little boats, so it'll be worth it. I recommend laying fiberglass inside where the hull is thin and then applying gelcoat on the outside. There is a v. inexpensive spray pack system called Val pack, available from West Marine...

Anyone else with a 14.2 in Santa Barbara?

Hi All. I'd like to suggest a date of Saturday, May 21st at 10am to gather at SB marina near the boat ramp, weather allowing. I am open to going down to Ventura also, but no one's mentioned it so far, so maybe we can do SB this time and Ventura next time. It would be great if it were a regular...

Anyone else with a 14.2 in Santa Barbara?

When the weather settles down a bit (big winds lately), I'll post a couple of dates and see who can make it, and whether to meet in SB or Ventura. Probably a weekend is best for most people.

    Restoring a 14.2 fixed keel

Cool! It's a fast little boat and well worth the effort.

    Jib car Fairlead

Thanks for the compliment. The hull is a 2005. It's a ex-rental, with all the dings you'd imagine. New shrouds; I bought the wire, bought an inexpensive crimper, and voila. I put turnbuckles on the side-shrouds. I had to strip a very heavy build up of crud off the hull. I reinstalled the mast...

Anyone else with a 14.2 in Santa Barbara?

I guess the thing to do would be to wait a bit longer and see if anyone else wants to sail out of SB, then set a date when we can bring our boats to SB marina (or elsewhere if more convenient). Spread the word!

    Jib car Fairlead

BTW, here is a pic of my freshly restored 2005 14.2. News sails from Gary Swenson at Ullman in Venture - great guy. He cut the jib a little higher for me. New shrouds - home made. Now she just needs a few tw eaks. She was flying on Sunday evening in 20 mph winds.

    Jib car Fairlead

I'm sure we all have jibsheet fairleads that have worn through to the screw. Does anyone know where to get replacements? Catalinadirect doesn't list them. Thanks

If you sail your 14.2 out of SB or nearby, let's meet up, compare boats, and see if there's enough of us to start a fleet.

    Loose mast step

On my 14.2, which I recently bought and restored, I drilled out the old holes, filled them with epoxy, and let it set. Then I simply drilled new screw holes and screwed down the mast step using the same sized screws as the old ones. Why do something so simple? As far as I know, the original...

    Restoring a 14.2 fixed keel

Sure. I'm waiting for a new set of sails from Ullman in Ventura--haven't had the boat on the water yet--but I will let you know as soon as I can sail her. Perhaps we can start a local club?

    Shrouds and turnbuckle WLLs

Thanks Russ-- good info. It's interesting to hear that swaging can cause problems. I'm having a new set of sails made by Ullman in Ventura. Can't speak highly enough of Gray Swenson, the head designer. I'll post pics when they arrive. I expect I'll have a grand time.
