    Halyard and Gooseneck position

I would like to thank everyone for their help on getting me up to speed on new sailing adventure with this 1980 Sunfish! I’m just about ready to take it out this weekend for the first time. Since I’m a new sailor for this boat can you please let me know what is a good starting position for the...

Thanks for the pictures. I installed the ratchet block for now. Will install the cam cleat when I get a little more experience sailing the boat.

    1980 Sunfish wood dagger board.

OK, I whatched video, but the board they had was white and had a hole in the board for th4 bungee. I guess what you are suggesting is to just wrap the bungee around the mast and around the board. Seams simple. By the way, I weighed the boat, it cam in at 120 lbs. so I think it’s pretty dry...

    1980 Sunfish wood dagger board.

Ok, thanks, I will use the $ to buy Rum for pain killers! Another question: the board has noe line tied to the top of the board. I guess that to secure the dagger board when the boat is filled. I read about a bungee cord to keep the board up. Where do I attach it to. Any pictures would be...

    1980 Sunfish wood dagger board.

Is it worth it for $100 to replace the wood dagger board with a white composite board? I read that the problem with the old boats was the dagger board was short. Don’t plan to race the boat, just want it to be stable fri the kids. Thanks

Refinishing rudder, tiller and daggerboard this weekend

Hi, take a look at: Epoxyworks.com. They have a really nice article on finishing a Sunfish rudder and dagger board. I’m thinking of doing it their way. They suggest a slow hardener for the epoxy. I think you are using a fast hardener. Also, I use a 12” pie pan to spread out the surface area...

    1980 Sunfish metal rub rail

Hi, just purchased this Sunfish. I have no idea it’s age but it is good condition. Can anyone tell what this hook on the cockpit lip is for. Also thinks no about adding either a ratchet block or a swivel can cleat. Not racing the boat is one better than the other for new a sailor. Thanks for...

    1980 Sunfish metal rub rail

Thanks for the weight tip, I’m going to see it today and I will weigh it. According to the owner the boat was stored inside so it should be dry. I will check the edge. Any comments on the traveler? Also, any recommendation for a pulley on the main sheet. I see in pictures some type of what...

    1980 Sunfish metal rub rail

Hi I’m thinking about purchasing this Sunfish for my grandchildren. I have not seen the boat but in the pictures it has a metal rub rail on the hulls edge. Is this a leak area and should I look for one that has the rolled fiberglass edge. I don’t know if the boats with the metal rub...
