I will be working on bringinga 1976 Super Sunfish back to life and need to know if I need to scrape/grind all the gelcoat down to the glass then fill it? I'd like to have the entire bottom re-gel coated in factory orange. The person that is re gelcoating said the cracks need to be fixed first...

I am an appreciator, that's a lot of work and it looks great! The rewarding part is not only how nice it looks but seeing the water bead on the deck!

The picture with the yellow circle is the area where there are significant spider cracks from an impact

My super Sunfish is going to need a large section of gel coat removed on the bottom and the filled in due to the PO's previous encounter with rocks. Any suggestions?

The work begins on my "free" 1976 Super Sunfish. After I repair the bittom it will receive a matching coat of paint. It's up on sawhorses ready for hull work. There are lots of little cracks in the gel coat- do I remove the gel coat where it's cracked or will paint fill those micro-thin voids...

Anyone know if it was painted on or if there is a decal available? She's going to get her hull repainted in the spring.
