    Horizontal crack in centerboard trunk

Hard to see from the pictures but the crack extends around the front radius of the trunk and down the other side, although not as sever. Again reaching through the inspection port I cannot feel any cracks from the inside.

    Horizontal crack in centerboard trunk

Hi all Here are some pictures of the crack in by daggerboard trunk. When I chipped out some of the loose gelcoat there looks like another layer of gelcoat beneith. Anyone ever experience this?

    Horizontal crack in centerboard trunk

Hi all, After my last outing I noticed a hairline crack forming in my centerbord trunk. It runs horizontally about 3 inches down. I pushed it with my finger and it felt springy but I could not tell if it was gelcoat delaminating or a bona fide structural crack. With my fingertips I could lift up...

    Older Laser Questions

Thanks, That doesn't sound to bad. Is there anyway to tell if your boom has a sleave or not. I bought my Laser used. It's a 2001 but I have no idea if the boom is original. If you tap it with a wrench or something will it sound different where the sleave is.

    Older Laser Questions

I am assuming that to install the reinforcing sleeve you need to remove all harware, rivets, screws, throughbolts, install the sleave and then re-drill to reinstall the fasteners through the boom and internal sleave. Is that correct?

What is similar to a Thistle - but easier to come by?

I sailed a Rebel for many years before selling it to get my Laser. The Rebel is a 16 ft open cockpit one design with an active class association. It is designed to be raced by a crew of 2 people but has a large cockipit which can accomodate about 4 or 5 people. The most I had out were three...

    Winter storage on Kittyhawk trailor

hi everyone, Thanks for the feedback. The boat will be in the garage so there is no concern of snow. The idea of blocking off the mast step with a cup, tape or plug of some sort is a good hint even for the summer. My cover does let water through and I wouldn't want water to just puddle in there.

Orientation of bunks for deck down storage

Hello all, I have a question on deck down storage of Lasers. I have read that the gunnels are the strongest part of the boat. When I first bought my boat I had it on bunks awaiting the arrival of my new trailer. While the boat was sitting deck down it was really resting on the crest of the...

Hi All, This is my first year with a Laser and am researching the best methods for winter storage. I live in New Jersey and have my boat on a Kittyhawk trailer. Reading that the Kittyhawk is better than convention bunk trailers as it supports the boat properly buy the gunnels (the stronges...

Advice to Newbs - Lessons learned from first sail

Hi Theodore, Thanks for getting back. No I'm not confused on the terminology of bearing or or heading up, but perhaps I am misreading which way the boat want to go during the capsize. It happens pretty quickly and my mind is focused on trying to stop it. What I do know for certain is that as I...

    Rolling????????????

Hi Guys OK now that make sense to me. I store the boom and mast bottom section on the boat. The upper mast section and sail are suspended in a sling from the garage roof. But wehn I transport I put the boom and lower mast in the car and tie the upper mast/rolled sail to the roof rack. If I roll...
