    New fish

My wife is from NC. I have a bit of a hard time with Carolina blue. Maybe it will make her more accepting of yet another boat.

    New fish

Sail is actually newish, looks to be in pretty good condition if a bit dirty. Dagger board and rudder could use a sanding and coat of varnish, but the hull is in good shape. I didn't weigh it. He had a trailer for $150 as well but I passed. Surprised that he was willing to sell separately.

Guess it's not that bad. If this was a move it before I mow kind of guy it would have been more than 300.

    New fish

Been idly combing CL for about a year. Picked up an '81 for $300. I got into this with an old ('68) fish a couple of years ago. I've enjoyed it, but the old style rudder sucks. Having it disengage in a moderate chop is not fun. Haven't had time to look too much into it, and I can't think of an...

    should I upgrade?

Thinking is if I want to upgrade my rudder, I'll be in it for $200 or so anyway

    should I upgrade?

Got a line on a newer Sunfish--not sure of the year but it's got the new rudder style. Sail looks a bit rough, and Hull dirty. But comes with a trailer and asking $500. I've finally got everything straight with my current rig, but if I swap over the sail I'll have a newer boat in nice shape...

New to forums, a few questions...

Ha, you've got to be kidding me. Walking the shore today for the thousandth time since the sail was lost, and I came upon the spars, with a slight bend but otherwise ok, and the sail, which was tangled all to hell in some rip rap. Took about 10 minutes to free it, but came out dirty but...

    old style Rudder spring plate?

Well, looks like I was wrong again. I drilled a couple of holes and installed. Apparently the force of a wing nut over that hump on the plate exerts more force than my hands, and it does flex. I think I might actually have all the parts that I'm supposed to at this point. Some light wind out...

    old style Rudder spring plate?

I can say for sure that the plate itself won't flex. There is a hump on the plate that might allow the spring to pivot, but I don't see how that would happen without some play in the fore screw. I'll install tomorrow and see how it goes

    old style Rudder spring plate?

Here's the guys response: "There were variations in these and in later years, Sunfish sold them without drilling the holes. Center of the Holes are located approximately 5-1/2 inch apart and 1/4 inch from the ends. I have sold over 20 of these and am unaware with any problems. let me know if...

    old style Rudder spring plate?

Somehow I managed to lose the Spring plate on my old style Rudder. I ordered a new one on eBay, but it does not appear to be the correct part. there are no holes in it, which would be no problem to drill. It also appears to be a little bit too short, and too thick as well. Does anyone have the...

    Laser rudder on a Sunfish?

Figured as much, worth a shot. Wondering if I should buy the laser anyway. $200, '70's, owner says it's in good shape.

    Laser rudder on a Sunfish?

Have a chance to buy a super cheap laser. After reading about the differences between a sunfish v laser, seems like the sunfish is a better choice for a rec sailor with a couple of little kids. However, I'd like to upgrade to the new style rudder. Figured it was a long shot, but didn't know if I...

New to forums, a few questions...

Here's the repair so far. Going to see if I can find some grommets at the hardware store, otherwise will do without this weekend. I plan to reinforce with thread, but knowing mei doubt I'll get around to it.
