Zuma rudder blade on a sunfish?

The different thicknesses is frustrating. I encountered the same thing when I thought about trying a Sunfish daggerboard in my Zuma. The Sunny's board is thicker than the Zuma's. Plus, it has a much shorter chord (fore and aft length) than the Zuma's so it's pretty much a no-go unless I make...

Zuma rudder blade on a sunfish?

I haven't visited the forum much and just saw your post. I have a Zuma, but had a Sunfish many decades ago... anyhow, my guess is that the Zuma rudder will improve the weather helm of the Sunfish. I bet it works better. Let us know!

    "At Sea" movies

Waterworld? Really I'm just kidding, but it does have a few sailing scenes in it.

    Hull Painting Below waterline

The first thought that comes to mind is using an epoxy barrier coat kind of paint, rather than an "aesthetic" top-coat kind of paint. An epoxy barrier coat would be very hard and durable, and if you sand it properly could be smooth and would be a good foundation for some kind of antifouling...

tracking Sunfish sailing with a Garmin GPS watch

I do the same thing with my Garmin 235 (on my Zuma and kiteboarding as well)...

    What life jacket to wear?

I wear a West Marine jacket that I think is more of a kayaking jacket. I believe they are higher cut. I've never had an issue with it riding up. In fact, if you're able to see my profile picture I am wearing it (unzipped though)...

20th Annual Sunfish Race Around Harker's Island, Outer Banks, NC, July 23-25

I'll be there doing the Friday practice sail in my Zuma... not sure if I can race without a Sunfish on Saturday, so that's TBD. BTW, I pronounce it "Bo-furt" ;)

Anyone here in eastern NC?... Sailing in the Around Harkers Island race?

Thanks for posting that! I had seen it somewhere before but couldn't find it. Yes, it should be great. In July the wind could be 0 or it could be a 20-25 thermal breeze... Probably will be somewhere in between though.

Anyone here in eastern NC?... Sailing in the Around Harkers Island race?

Thanks for the reply! It's a pretty low-lying island. This race has been held a number of times before, but I just heard about it as I am getting back into the sailing scene (been wrapped up in kiteboarding and windsurfing for many years). The race is timed such that the bridge "crossing"...

    J24 for cruising

Sort of an old thread at this point, but... I used to own J24 #2739 and used it mostly for cruising and daysailing. Looking back, I would probably have enjoyed a J22 more because of what in my opinion is a more comfy and ergonomic cockpit. The deck-stepped mast is also better for casual use...

Anyone here in eastern NC?... Sailing in the Around Harkers Island race?

I'm quite new to these forums (and am a Zuma sailor), so don't know how widely read these forums are, but are there many here who live and sail in eastern NC? The Around Harkers Island race will be hosted by the Harkers Island Sailing Club on Saturday July 24, with a casual practice sail around...

Free Sunfish deck. Needs hull :)

Found this destroyed Sunfish deck on the shores of Bogue Sound while kayaking in Indian Beach NC. There's no sign of the hull anywhere. It's in an area that is currently being developed with waterfront homes. Looks like one of the hurricanes got to it

    Zuma cover advice

Nice! I ended up ordering the Top Gun, which was in stock. The boat is kept outside in coastal NC, but hopefully I won't have mildew issues. I won't be towing the boat with the cover on, or at least don't plan to.
