Opening the hull - worth the trouble?

Funny I just posted on my own thread something similar. My boat was also 100 lbs over weight. Try the black trash bag method now that it is sunny outside. I think you'll have faster and more efficient success for the last bit of moisture you are trying to remove. I lost a good 30 lbs in 5-6...

    Sunfish Repair help

Re: Sunfish Repair help -- Update on weight It's finally starting to get warm/hot and dry here in North Carolina and I've been able to leave the boat outside, wrapped in black trash bags, and with a small computer fan running. The boat has been shedding weight fairly quickly now. Just wanted...

1973 Sunfish complete boat or parts

Not sure why this was deleted so I am going to try again. I have a complete 1973 SF for sail. The hull is not an anyway in good shape so I am willing to part it or sell complete as a project boat. The hull needs to finish drying out, foam blocks reattached. a hole repaired on the bottom...

    Sunfish Repair help

Well I've actually managed to get her down under 200 lbs. I modified my approach and it really seamed to help. I put the heat gun facing the intake of the shop vac and then just turned the shop vac and heat gun on. Really started to speed up the process. Although now I found another boat at...

    Sunfish Repair help

I'm curious what people's thoughts are on the heat gun approach. I'll see how it compares to the modified "light bulb" approach I am taking. The heat gun/shop vac seems to have worked relatively well for such a short time frame -- 2 days. I am pretty sure it had all the principles described...

    Sunfish Repair help

Thanks for the tips oceanfish. Looks like sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. $200 was about right for a fish some some serious issues. At least I got a good set of spars, mast, sail, rudder + tiller, and daggerboard. I opened up an access port above just aft of the coum(...

    Sunfish Repair help

I guess I'll keep sanding the ding in that first picture and thanks for confirming my approach on the spider cracks I think I am going to dry it for a month and see how far I get, then do the repairs and get out on the water. I'll finish drying her next winter when I can let her sit for 3-4...

    Sunfish Repair help

Hello everyone, newbie here so please be patient with me. I just bought a 1973 sunfish for $200 with everything. Couple of issues of course. She's heavy but I'll be installing some vent ports and trying to dry her out. I did a leak test and she did really well. Found two major leaks. One...

    Old Style Rudder and Tiller

I have an old style rudder and tiller with extension. All of the hardware is included. It is actually the "new" old style rudder. Not the rounded rudder. Here's a pic. It's in excellent condition. I'd also be willing to trade for a full new style rudder and tiller assembly. Thanks, Jim
