    Laser traveler trailer

Goota agree. Any Kitty Hawk/Trailex type with the swivel bow fitting is the only way to go.

    Kitty Hawk trailer question

I had one wheel that was running rough, and replaced that side. I can't remember the size, but it was standard; I think I found it on Google search, and the auto parts store confirmed it when I brought in the old bearings. The hardest part is pounding in new races. This $40 tool makes it very easy.

    Laser mast step possible leak

At that price, it's a good buy. Looks like a nice older boat with updated rigging and boom. If the leak is really bad, puttiing in an access port and fiberglassing the inside of the mast tube, or maybe where the tube meets the deck is no big deal. Wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

    Reinforce mast step or not?

Making progress here! Today, after my daughter and I tested for leaks with the "bubble test," using a jig saw cut the access port at about the seven o'clock location to the mast, 10" away. Here is a shot of the mast tube/hull joint (notice the dead wasp and broken flotation): I'm going to go...

    Reinforce mast step or not?

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to go ahead and do it. One other question: the gelcoat at the bottom of the mast tube is worn away. Iis it class legal to epoxy in one of those metal discs? Or should I just pour in some thin epoxy to replace the gelcoat?

    Reinforce mast step or not?

My daughter is a junior who sails out of the Richmond Yacht Club, and is moving up from El Toros to Lasers. We have a Laser that I am putting back together, and being inspried by her competetive drive, we bought another Laser so I can sail with her, and perhaps try my hand in the local fleet...

    Separated gunwale seam

Wow! That's some serious separation. I'd reevaluate how the boat sits on the trailer, and how you have it fastened. It shouldn't do that. Your repair sounds correct. I'd you have a dremel you could also chip out any loose filler. Be sure to clean with acetone before applying the epoxy.

Boat with no title in South Carolina - DNR

Is the boat registered or not? I've bought a currently registered vehicle without a title...in Cslifornia, it's very easy to fill out a form and get a duplicate title issued. Twice I have bought boats that have never been registered. One was an inflatable dingy I use as a tender for my...

    Searching Craigslist for Laser

I'm a bit of a Craigslist junkie, and unless you can haggle like a carpet trader I don't like the looks of that ad. Some of those boats looks like junk too. Be prepared for a $urprise at the DMV if you expect to register your new boat and the tags are not current. Out here in California you...

    Refurbishing/improving a hull

After some deliberation, I tackled the mast step over the weekend. Part of me wanted to go sail the boat, and wait for some problem to require me to cut the deck and add weight; however, I also know that at 200 lbs., and the fact that I only go out in bigger days, beefing up this area would be...

    Refurbishing/improving a hull

So here are some photos. The guy working the Bondo gun really went to town! I have a 6" white hatch and a 5" black one on order from Murray's--I'll start with the mast step refurb, and then maybe hit the CB trunk/deck joint if I can figure out how to cut out the excess Bondo without being able...

    Refurbishing/improving a hull

So I picked up a 1990 hull in what I think is little used condition. Last summer I destroyed a 1975 softie--I had it for a few years and sailed it in big winds, and it was becoming quite a leaker despite my best efforts. It broke off its temporary mooring one night (no leaving boats overnight...

    Vanguard vs Performance

This is my first post. I'm getting back into Laser sailing after a many years hiatus. Been looking at boats. A friend said older boats built by Performance in the 1980s are better than the more recent Vanguard hulls, more robustly built and therefore worth more on the used boat market...
