Is injecting foam in mast & boom for buoyancy a good idea?

If you can't right a turtled Laser then something is wrong. Either the mast is stuck in the bottom, or you are using a wrong technique. The ability to right a turtled Laser is essential to sailing a Laser. Filling the mast with foam will increase the mast's weight and will change the sailing...

    Laser rental in Mission Bay?

Thanks Eyeper, and I agree with you. I will give one of the double-handed options a try, either at the Catamaran resort, or the Sports Center.

    Laser rental in Mission Bay?

Thanks Ed. Since my last post I have discovered the Mission Bay Aquatic Center. They require a 2.5 hour checkout before renting any sailboat, and the time is included in time one pays to rent the boat. Their Lasers do look old and have the old style rigging. I don't know if it is worth it to...

    Laser rental in Mission Bay?

I am a Master and I do race, but unfortunately I will not be out here in mid-March. I will be back in the Midwest by then. Thanks for the invitation. I am just looking to do some day sailing in the Bay while out here.

    Laser rental in Mission Bay?

I am staying in Mission Bay, San Diego for about a month. Is there a place that I can rent a Laser for some day sailing on Mission Bay? Thanks for all advice.

    Olympic coverage/Rio 2016

Thanks Mr. Mayor, Since my last post I have been able to watch the live streams on my computer and once I identified my cable provider it has worked like a charm. No commentary, which may be a good thing. My only other complaint is that today is the first day of Laser men's coverage, which is...

    Olympic coverage/Rio 2016

Thanks. I keep getting a message that says:"This video is not available due to location restrictions or authorization failures." I have no idea what that means since I can get streaming Olympic coverage for other sports, just not the sailing. Anyone know what is going on?

    Olympic coverage/Rio 2016

I have been looking forward to watching the coverage of the Laser sailing in the Olympics. It was supposed to start today but the NBC online feed is not working. Does anyone know how to see the coverage, or when the day's summary will be on broadcast TV?

    Sailing after knee surgery

My comments assumed that the original poster was doing the usual rehab prescribed by his physician following knee surgery, which he should certainly do. After that is over sailing a Laser should not be a problem for him.

    Sailing after knee surgery

Nothing specicif for the knees. Actually, I do very little stretching before I sail. Maybe I should.

    Sailing after knee surgery

I have had 3 knee surgeries, a meniscus repair in each knee and an ACL reconstruction. After proper rehab I have been able to sail without any problems. I find that hiking makes my knees feel good. Hiking properly should not put any undue stress on the knee joints. The only problem I have is...

    Looking for a Laser trailer!

The easiest to use and best overall trailer is the Kitty Hawk. It is designed for Lasers and will carry the Laser without damaging it. It can also be used as a launching dolly. I have had two and both were excellent. You can find them on the web. Do it right the first time and get a Kitty...

    Mast step chafe kit

I agree with this. I used these strips (purchased from APS) in a 1990's boat without any issues although I was very careful to make sure the ends of the strips abutted perfectly and did not curl up. Then in 2007 I bought a new boat and applied new strips to the base of the mast only to find out...
