The front shock cord passes though the main sheet block and around the spar. The Rear goes around the hiking strap and then round the spar. There should be a diagram that comes with the set.

Thats all you need to do put the sail on the mast and slide the indicator inbetween the sail and the mast. Push most of the rod in so there's only enough above the sail to allow free movement and it'll not come out.

It was rule 11b I was thinking of and particually the section 'improve the performance, finish, materials or shape beyond the original is not permitted.' I always understood this to mean you couldn't use waxes, polishes or lubricants that stayed on the hull and made it more slippery.
Re-finishing of the hull has always been illegal, whether as a lubricant or polish. The only things you can do to the hull are 1, repair damage. 2, clean it (with something that does not leave a residue).

As mentioned on another thread last week. I've used the same Rooster Carbon Tiller for the last 8 years. I'd look carefully at any new tiller to ensure that it's strong in the place where the last one broke.
Out of interest where did it break?
I have used the same Rooster tiller and extension since 2000 with no problem at all. The extensions come in various diameters so it's worth trying the different sizes to see which suits your hand size. I've got an oval section which I find helps with holding the main sheet.
