How _exactly_ do you rig your JC strap?

Perfect! That's just the info I needed.

How _exactly_ do you rig your JC strap?

For those of you using a JC strap bungee set up - how exactly do you have it set up? I don't really understand from any of the descriptions I've read how exactly the bungee is fastened/rigged near the tack of the sail. Can anyone provide clear photos of how the bungee goes through/is connected...

Zuma rudder blade on a sunfish?

Update: Took the zuma rudder + stainless bracket out for the first time (which custom hockey-stick-turned-tiller and golf-club+ronstan-joint-extension) and it worked like a charm! Only sailed the classic rudder once under slightly different conditions, but the zuma rudder works great (and...

Zuma rudder blade on a sunfish?

Preparing the rudder cheeks for welding. A bolt is being used to keep the pivot holes in alignment. The cheeks are clamped around a piece of oak shimmed out with aluminum tape to .87". The hole drilled in the oak block (visible in the pic on the right) is to permit back-purge gas to keep the...

Zuma rudder blade on a sunfish?

THE PLOT THICKENS: (or at least, the rudder thickens) I can't use the whole zuma rudder cheek assembly on the sunfish because the pintle on the zuma is 1/2" instead of the sunfish's 3/8" and doesn't fit in the sunfish's gudgeons. I can't just put the zuma rudder into the sunfish's bracket...

    Bridle setup options?

Sounds good - I can't imagine that the strength of polypro would actually be a problem for recreational sailing? FWIW the dyneema is also pretty slick on the surface. I still haven't sailed with mine yet on account of flat trailer tires though so that's really just guessing :p

How not to capsize while learning?

My silly opinions (mostly just seconding everything signal charlie says): Practice a capsize first thing next time you put the boat on the water. It's a lot easier to practice near shore in little/no wind then out in the middle of a lake when it's windy and you're tired. I had a big dread of...

    Replacement Mainsheet Blocks

I just got a pair of viadana ball bearing swivel blocks for a sunfish that i like (i did a similar upgrade to a Zuma a while back). Not very expensive and don't require replacing the eyestraps on the boom (i have a sunfish but same idea) Like these: Viadana USA Yacht Equipment - Viadana Single...

    Bridle setup options?

Well I'm no expert but I did read a lot about it on the internet today :) I've never braided polypro, but from what you're describing I think they sound the same. I buried the tail with a fid (pushing), but a lot of folks pull the tail through with a bent piece of stainless wire (if you google...

    Bridle setup options?

Update! Sailed the boat for the first time yesterday with the three-loop bridle, had a great time (sheet was bowline'd to the loop). This morning I spliced (fun! first time splicing dyneema) and installed my own dyneema bridle, looks great but haven't used it yet. I had to order a couple...

    Sunfish Window Installation Notes

How did you mark and cut the opening? Hot knife? Something else? Did you cut the opening before sewing in the window?

    Leak testing/sealing

Finally got around to leak testing the boat, results were promising: One leak at the tub/deck seam at the very back of the storage compartment 2 very (very) small leaks at the hull/deck seam near the bow small-ish leak at one of the stern corners - there's some spider cracks in the gel coat so...

    Sailfish as stand-up paddleboard

I learn something new every day! Not really related, I've wondered for a while how effective it would be to put an oarlock socket on the stern and scull with a single oar for auxiliary propulsion vs kayak/SUP paddling.

    Sailfish as stand-up paddleboard

This guy does some upright paddling in his sunfish in his series about sailing around isle royale in a sunfish (5 part series, great watch if you're into that sort of thing): Doesn't seem like he has any big difficulty staying upright even without outriggers (but he's in a sunfish, not a...
