So, is anybody actually racing this weekend?

Did an 80 boat mixed fleet regatta. Only 8 Lasers. Lucky to finish equal first as a lack of practice saw me capsize twice.....very embarrassing!

Class Politics Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it was

Re: Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it It would kill more than two birds; it would kill most Laser sailing, around here anyway. Imagine the typical club racer, a person who is quite happy with what they have, having to fork out about what they...

    Ross Bennett's Olympic Dream

Re: Ross Bennett's Olympic Path About classes and training; one guy i know lived 2 hours drive from the water. He scored in the top 5% in the state of his HSC (final exams on leaving school). And about six weeks after doing that, he won ISAF's Youth Worlds in the Lasers. It was a remarkable...

    Aussie spars and blades

The funny thing is, at the Masters worlds, I heard a top US big rig skipper complaining about Aussie spars; saw a top (I think) Euro skipper hand back in a bent Radial bottom section and say it was no good; and was talking to a non-Aussie world champ who said his charter boat's Aussie foils were...

Class Politics Is it really a one design class?

In Sk8ing sailor's defence, he was pretty much answering my post when he put those results up . However, like others have pointed out, saying that sailing a Laser well is "easy" is just not true - there are more people you have to beat than in any other class (except perhaps the Opti) and lots...

Class Politics Is it really a one design class?

If you find sailing Lasers is easy, then you must be doing it so well you're winning all the time. So how many world, national and district Laser titles have you won? It's interesting that you think Tom Slingsby's sailing is mindless......is that why you beat him all the time? Or is...

    New Standard Laser Sail Design

True, but it's more evidence that we should stop the rumour-mongering about how quickly the sails die. The most successful sailor at the regatta the picture came from reckons he uses a sail for 50 races before he can feel it going slow. The most successful sailor at the preceding Open worlds...

Class Politics Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it was

Re: Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it The sail is going to be radically changed if trials work out (ie if it's longer lasting but no faster), according to an extremely good source.

New laser blades used at worlds?

At least one world champ reckoned that the new Aussie foils were flexier but more durable than the standard ones. Something that was amusing at the worlds was hearing a fast American and a fast (I think) Euro complain about the flexy Aussie spars......hello, haven't we been hearing for years...

New laser blades used at worlds?

At least one set broke, but that was after the boat ended up in high breaking surf so it doesn't count! Older fibreglass CBs are being weighed at the worlds as well, and some of them were underweight.

Class Politics Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it was

Re: Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it I'd say they are due to easing the cunningham, but the point is simple - getting a piece of cloth or film to change its shape to accomodate different winds, means that sometimes there will be excess cloth or...

Class Politics Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it was

Re: Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it So you want smooth, wrinkle free sails like the windsurfers and Finns have? Maybe wrinkles aren't too slow? As posted before, in at least one recent class that recently moved to film sails...

    Aussie Laser Sailors

I think it would have been a group of sailors training for the worlds, rather than a club.I think the Lasers sail with the combined RPA/ASC/BYRA fleet further south. I don't live there any more so this is only a guess.

Class Politics Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it was

Re: Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it I bumped into a three-time world Masters champ, someone who can regularly beat the top North American Olympian, the other day. He reckons he gets 50 races out of his sails, or perhaps "just" 3 regattas if it's...

    Class Politics possible new rig?

Ross, it's not negative to say that the boat and rig we currently have are okay - that's positive. It's dead easy to think of things we can chuck on a Laser. Hey, why not a fondue set for those light wind races and the '70s fashionistas? Why not unrestricted kinetics? Why not an LCD display...
