Single Handing the Capri (how to?)

I found this Capri forum because I'm renovating my 1985 14.2 after a dozen years of sitting on it's trailer in my backyard. Therefore, I should mention that I haven't sailed in over a decade. With that said, I named my then new boat "Gust-Ho" after my first outing when it capsized. That was...

Single Handing the Capri (how to?)

In the past, I've lake sailed my 14.2, mostly by myself, for over 10 years...sometimes in heavy weather. Although I still consider myself an amateur, I've always sailed with both sails. But, don't take my word for it. If you ask the experts here, they may agree that a main with the jib...

    What do you call this?

Taking another gander... When I bought my 14.2 new in 1985, this is how (see above photo) the gooseneck was installed by the dealer. Now, when I look closely at the rigging diagram (page 6 of the manuel) it appears that the cunningham hole, on my gooseneck, is upside-down.

    New Guy...Old Capri

What's wrong with this? The manuel says the traveler length should be 6'-2", but I've also read here that the traveler apex should be 28" above the transom. When I cut a new 6'-2" traveler, its transom apex is only 17". Did I do something wrong?

    What do you call this?

Thanks fish 89...not only the name, but number too. :D Fortunately, I’ll only need the slide. Hey Jfg...happy to help, even if unintentionally. For over a decade, I kept Gusto-Ho in a slip for easy sailing after work. Now, I’m hoping to daysail from my trailer. So, I would like to know...

    What do you call this?

I would like to order a replacement joint elbow, where the boom connects to the mast, but I don't know what the part is called. Attached is a photo of the part. Can anyone tell me its name?

    Worn mast aft repair...

As you can see, I've finally stepped the mast after riveting the foot. I'm very pleased with the results. I'll keep you posted if there are any under sail problems.

Thanks Jim for Minn Kota input...I've been surfing their info. online including Cabela's. Do you attach your MK directly to the transom or have you installed a motor mount? Btw, how many hours use, before recharging, can you get?

    New Guy...Old Capri

She floats... I finally got #776 (without rigging & sails) off land and into water. Gust-Ho has been perched on her trailer for well over a decade. I'm pleased to report that she is indeed water tight. However, I did encounter some trouble lowering the center board, clogged solid with...

how to fill the mast with foam

Thanks Kent for the paint thinner suggestion...I'll give it a try, but I think the stained seat will require something more aggressive. Fyi Bob...I too, as did Kent, found after running a long wire up the aft end of the mast, that some foam product still remains (one week later) sticky  ...

how to fill the mast with foam

Messy mast... After reading this thread, I foamed my mast at the forestay (drilled a small hole under plate). All went well, except for a small amount of that sticky stuff bubbled out onto the mast, fiberglass boat seat and my fingers (gloves made the job too difficult). I used acetone (nail...

    Old boat - New Owner

old boat - old owner Hey William...I have an '85 and don't remember any rudder (rubber or leather) friction material. Fyi, center board uses a 4' x 3/8" shockcord. As for your other questions, try http://www.geocities.com/chrismfoy/ to find a '91 manual that seems to work for me.
