    Interesting

The edition I have clearly states inches, so I think he was misquoted.

    Interesting

And to contextualize: Ainslie writes you should not go for the extremes "what you are really looking for is something in the middle." Too much forward creates "more mast bend." So, he does not say you should look for a 152" rake. I believe the Laser class aims at 150.5" a number I have come...

    Interesting

That is 148 / 152 inches. It is a British system after all.

    New Laser Sailor!!!

And to further that analogy: Planning on attending the world series next year and buying a glove in January is not such a good idea In sailing: Not such a good idea either. Whatever, buy a boat now. Take a look at the for sale pages on this website. It includes a pretty complete guide on what...

    Fall Sailing Gear

Be careful: in these conditions you were fine, but the water will cool down (I am not sure where you are) and a deathroll will not be so pleasant, or even dangerous! Georg

    UV protection for deck

You leave your sail on the mast? does that have a cover? I would be more worried about UV damage to the sail than to anything else!!! G

    Boom Reinforcing Sleeve installation

Ross, It seems that we are not the ones uninterested in new ideas, but rather that you are not interested in a better way of throughbolting. Georg

    Just Bought a 1979 Laser - Help!!

That does not look bad at all. I wonder if you actually want to fiberglass this together. I am thinking that a little flexibility might be good at that point. I would go with the 5200 and the brass bushing. I think you can get it pretty waterproof that way. I also wonder: is this really a 79...

    Boom Reinforcing Sleeve installation

I second that! The method described above is exactly how I did it. It is not difficult at all. It will take a bit of time, but once you get going, it is very very easy. G

    I Need Quick Help !!!

Exactly! This seems to be the problem. turn it around while pushing it in, so that it closes tightly again. G

    Boom Reinforcing Sleeve installation

Through bolting is stronger, easier, and cheaper (since you do not need the tools). G

New to me Laser with a crack in the Hull

That does not look bad at all. The brackets are indeed for a compass, a Silva probably. As long as you keep the separated area dry (duct tape) it will not hurt the boat. Nevertheless, a repair is simply and I would not wait too long. Make sure to use some masking tape, because it will be ugly if...

    Just Bought a 1979 Laser - Help!!

I am not sure how bad your separation is. If you put the bronze piece in there with a ton of sillicone, that would mostly work. However, if there is a distance between deck and botton, there might be another problem (I have never seen this though). I would not worry about the spidercracks...

    Need some help- Laser pricing/value

74 boats are built like rockets! I sailed one for a while and I thought it was pretty stiff even compared to pretty new boats. A major problem you might encounter is the mast step (but this is true for any laser, unless they are brand new). This can be repaired (do a search here). The soft...

    Radial or 4,7

Well, first of all: why is the pirat so boring? If you have competitors to sail against, it should be fun. Sure, lasers are fun, but so are Hobies and so are Ocean racers. If you are bored in the pirat, I wonder if you will not be bored in any sailboat??? I am also not sure how much fun it will...
