The hull will be the cheapest part of the purchase, it is the sum of the other parts that will make this old crappy boat about as expensive and a mid to late 90's boat
Avoid the 1989 to 1991 as they are made by Pearson Yachts as the proved to be poorly made Lasers and don't stand the test of...
the sails for Intensity are awesome and represent a great value. IMO they are better made than the 'official' Laser sail. I went through 2 Hyde sails that were not cut properly and did not match up to spec. I am on my 3rd full rig and my 2nd radial from Intensity as I replace them around 2...
While it is not used, it is still 7 years old and everything ages over time. The price is not that much of a discount of buying brand new. Offer them half price on the brand new sail ~$285-$300
So good ideas but I think that the mast mount below the goose neck would not be a good spot because our masts rotate and hard to keep the person in the picture not to mention it would be a wild visual doing a gybe (from extreme left view to extreme right view)
The deck in front of the mast is not big enough? Since it is designed for surf boards I would think that the adhesive is designed for rough surfaces as surf boards have some sort of grip on the topside
also building a custom mount that screws in to the bow eye holes would probably be my choice
this is common with salt water boats as the rivets (SS) in the mast (Al) with salt water creates galvanic corrosion much quicker and intense than fresh water boats
moving from a Cat to a Laser 2 or Laser you will find it very slow an somewhat boring. I have had all three, the Laser 2 is not terribly well built and suffers deck delamination and is more of a kids/youth boat. There are much better double handers out there that are more sophisticated and...
It is just filler that overlaps the joint from the top deck to the bottom deck.
Old boats (1971 to 1989) the joint was unfinished and visible, boats from 1990 to 2008 (starting with Pearson then SL and lastly Vanguard) they smoothed out the joint with filler to make a more finished joint (and...
Not sure where you see 2 pieces of rope. there is ONE rope: at one end is an eye splice (left side) then the rope goes through the fairleads as it comes up on the right side there is a hole which you make with a Fid and pass the end of the rope through it to secure the hole. Then the rope...
I don't see 2 types of rope, I do see a line that has an eye splice and a hole splice in the middle of the rope and wear on the central portion where the block goes. The darker line coming from the traveler is probably for his water bottle.
Basically this person put a 2:1 purchase system in...
A Dart 18 or Hobie 17 will cost you about $1000 more but there is more demand for it. You can't just look at the bottom price, you have to look at saleablity in case you don't like it you want to be able to get rid of it easily. Quattro 16 is not listed in the Portsmouth Yardstick in the...
I skip both, Hobie 16 is not a well designed boat (and UGLY) and is the pitch-pole king, a Hobie 17 is much better; the Woods 16 I never heard of and when I looked it up it looks like a homebuilt and any wood hull boat is a maintenance pig and you are at the mercy the quality of construction of...
Laser 2 were first launched in Australia and then North America in 1979, it made it to Europe in 1980. I doubt that it was made by Vanguard unless it is a late 1990's boat.
Laser 2's suffered from poor construction and bad design as the floors delaminate and get very soft. After the floor...
