    Sunfish vs Hobie Wave

Did he happen to mention how he manages to get it in and out of the water?

    Sunfish vs Hobie Wave

Thanks—you sound very confident. And strong. We will passively keep our eyes open for a good deal on a used Wave but I think the impulse has passed. Too many advised against it.

    Sunfish vs Hobie Wave

Great suggestion. Thank you. I didn’t know there was a Hobie forum. Took amuck look and found that it’s very hard to move boat on beach and winter storage is a big issue. Will enjoy my fish on my bay and Hobies on vacation.

    Sunfish vs Hobie Wave

Just got back from Kezar lake in Maine where I learned to sail a sunfish 20 years ago. It was cold and rainy the whole time. Husband and I both got bronchitis. But we did manage to sail a bit. He won’t step foot in my sunfish but really enjoyed the Hobie. We live on a calm bay and have a beach...

    Turtle Prevention

I'm impressed you could climb back in the boat. I usually have to swim to shore and get a motor boat tow for the boat. Any tricks to share?

    First sail of 2021

Set up boat at 8 am and had to take it for a spin. I think I was the first sunfish on Southold Bay this year. My four year old sunfish is still in great shape. Me? Older and heavier but I feel like a kid on the water. Have a wonderful sailing summer everyone!

    refinishing wood dagger and rudder

Um I don’t know what “class legal” means. Perhaps for racing? I don’t race. I’m just happy to stay in the boat and dither about in the bay.

    refinishing wood dagger and rudder

Yes, it's a long thin elastic cord, wrapped around the mast and knotted to provide tension.

No metal anywhere on board. I do tie bungee with reasonable tension to mast. Next year will study the appropriate tension better. Thanks for this discussion--maybe I will send you picture of the varnished board when we get to it!

    refinishing wood dagger and rudder

When I bought the boat in 2016 from The Dingy Shop here on Long Island, they offered me a choice of mahogany or fiberglass. I opted for the wood for both the daggerboard and rudder assembly. Did I make a bad decision? I will say I have a lot of daggerboard popping up in windy conditions and when...

    refinishing wood dagger and rudder

One more question. My daggerboard is curved. Yours is straight. My boat is four years of. Did they change the daggerboard design for newer boats?

Thanks so much. Exactly what I hoped to learn. Your daggerboard looks gorgeous!

    refinishing wood dagger and rudder

Hi all. It's been a wonderful summer (in a terrible year in our country) sailing on my 4 year old fish on the bay three or four times a week. My bay is very shallow at times and I have tarnished the wood boards a bit due to dragging them through the sand. Wondering if anyone can recommend a...

Hoisting Sail is a Two Person Job?

Very impressed you can raise sail from cockpit. I guess you stand to do so. I would never attempt to stand; I just slide around on my rear. Happy to say I did manage to hoist and rig sail on my own. Those who said gooseneck was the key were correct. Did I mention I'm 69 years old? Pretty healthy...
