I love the SEA 3/4 hikers, and also have a pair of the SEA shorts for lighter air days. No problem undoing to relieve yourself. And if it's windy, I don't even bother. I just let 'er go.
Tracy,
Don't know if you ever heard this legendary Laser gate start story from either the 1976 Worlds in Germany or 1977 Worlds in Brazil (I think it was the latter). John Bertrand, winner of both regattas, would be one of the first boats to start through the gate. After a quick tack he'd be...
This rig needs a big counterweight on the opposite deck. I use a monster sand bag, but didn't have it there for the pic, which is why I'm not really hiking too hard here. Any further out and it would flip over on me. The sand bag makes it pretty hard to practice tacking, or at least without a...
Cleaning out the basement, and in an old box of sailing stuff I came across this ancient Laser brochure. Must be the first one. Here's the 10 ten things I love about it:
1. The windowless, Elvstrom sail. Probably an early Fogh prototype, maybe the first.
2. The guy reaching along, seemingly...
Tracy,
Nice summation. You nailed all the points. I don't know if the 2009 organizers have an entry limit set for the Masters, but I will try to find out.
The 2009 Worlds, although not "officially" announced yet by the organizers or ILCA, is anticipated to be hosted by St. Margaret's Bay Sailing Club, and sailed on St. M Bay. This is a large, natural sea breeze bay, 30 min. south of Halifax, and is IMHO one of the best places to sail in North...
Thanks Rob and Monsieur Gouvernail, but I wouldn't be on the list as you'd need to be an Olympic medalist or large class world champion (or in the "builder" category, like Bruce Kirby and Paul Henderson).
Top of the list is Ross McDonald, #1 Canadian sailor of all time IMHO.
Ross is a 2-time...
Hi Tracy.
Largs, Scotland in 2010 you say? I coached the Canadian Women's Worlds team there back in the '80s. It blew the poodle off the chain. Local pubs were great, too. So with Australia, Canada, Scotland (and then Fremantle in 2011 following ISAF Worlds?), the next 4 Open and Masters...
Re: Laser Worlds 2008 and 2011 (and 2009)
Although not yet officially announced, I have it from a few reliable sources that the 2009 Laser Open and Masters Worlds will be held at St. Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada (August or September). Referred to by locals as simply "The Bay", it is a...
Re: Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it
In response to a couple of your Q's:
Leech cord would not be adjustable while sailing, although I imagine the cleat could be led along the foot somewhere so it could be adjusted, say, before or between races...
Re: Was the sailcloth actually rejected by the Victoria's Secret supplier because it
Tracy, That's me in 187740 and it's actually a Hyde sail I'm using (first time I've used a Hyde). From what I understand, Hyde uses Contender cloth which (IMHO) is superior (firmer) to North's in-house cloth...
Similar thing happened to me in an early race. I found myself rounding the top mark in the lead, cracked the vang and blasted off towards the reach mark. Peter Vessella was just behind me and yelled out, "Andy, you idiot, wrong way!" (he didn't really use idiot, but should have). Fortunately...
