What sail size should I get?

Well, I just bought a used laser, it came with a full rig. I need a new sail and mast, the sail has a major rip, and the mast has a lot of corrosion. Everything is 30 years old. I was just wondering if I should get a radial instead of a full rig. I'm 5' 10", and 140 pounds.

A Radial should be the best compromise for you, unless the winds are typically light where you sail.

As a mediocre 150 pounder, I can handle a full rig up to about 15 mph. Good light-weight sailors can do OK in 15-20 mph, although they might not be competitive upwind.

If you're going out onto the Bay in the windy choppy summer afternoons, you'll want the radial rig.

If you're going to sail on the inland lakes and its less windy, full rig is fine.

Go with radial i used standard but when i got radial it was much more controlable especially out on open water.

i just love the standard rig ,but in choppy water and heavy breezes it gets hard to control, so I prefer the radial, even in heavy storms the 4.7 is very cool to sail.
it depends where you sail, the heavier the wind, the smaller the sail..

yes i agree the radial is imence when it comes to heavey winds. i also keep a standard for the light days.
