Hello All
I am looking to purchase a used Laser but cannot find what the minimum weight should be. What is the minimum weight per class rules.
Thanks
David

I am pretty sure that no minimum weight is specified. But class rules don't allow you to 'shave off', say 10 lbs.
PS: you may get a better answer once you move this question to the proper section within the forum

no really legal weight but here are some Ideal weights

4.7: 120-130 in 10 kts

Radial: 160-170 in 10 kts

Full: 195-220 in 10 kts

"All Hail SA!!!!!!"

word son, word

There is no minimum weight. The weight is the weight as supplied by the manufacturer. All Lasers weigh exactly the same amount and are made from the exact same materials. The sails are all the same and the masts and booms are all the same. The fittings from the manufacturer are all exactly alike.

The only difference is you. Yes ! You the sailor are the only difference on the carefully constructed, 100% quality controlled Laser.

OH yes. If ALCOA is successful in its attempt to purchase ALCAN and reunite just a few years after the US government spent over $42,000,000 in legal fees accomplishing the break up of that former monopoly, will the Laser masts once again be supplied with the alloy used when ALCAN was the aluminum supplier?

Will that alloy be exatly the same as the one we have been using for the last few years or exactly the same as the old alloy which must be the same as the original alloy.

Now I am confused and must go sleep.

Funny actualy, lasers al all the same? After a few years racing i dont believe this anymore. All the topsailors in Europe sail a Laser from the australian factory, i dont thing its because they are cheaper. I have an australian top section, and it is diferent then the ones from great britain, much stiffer and harder to break. So all lasers the same? I even think there is a big difference between the USA lasers and the GBR lasers, besides the colour.

Thanks for all the help. The reason I am asking for a minimum weight, I am looking at used boats and do not want to buy one that is water logged. I have seen another thread that states the weight should be around 130lbs is this correct?
Thanks again
David

As the provided links above stated, yes.

Between 130-135 is the norm.

Above that can be ok, if you can determine the inside is wet (since you can dry it out and it will lose weight)

The Laser website has the hull weight listed at 59kg's. sorry, I was born after metric was invented!

and yet you couldn't go to Google and look up a Converter?

back to Kindergarten with you!

Yes, but, when there is a major int championship the boats are supplied by the organisers, so buying an aussie hull isn't going to help you.
