What are ya'll working on this Winter? We have a Catfish to repair but I want to build a hoist first.

The wooden Sunfish project might gain traction this year, so it could be ready for the 2023 70th Anniversary. We have the patterns for the frames, deck, hull, side planks and transom, plus all of the measurements. Should we do the 1950s long coaming or the 1960s V coaming? I think we'd modify it for the new style rudder.

To whet our appetite for the Sunfish we are building a 7'7" Nutshell Pram. We have the plans and the Builder's guide, going to get the plywood tomorrow.

Too cold to do boat projects in the Midwest, but the wife is keeping me busy with various projects around the house - changing out hinges (different color), stopping wallpaper to paint our kitchen, and installing an access panel for our attic.

I went back to the job (on contract) that I retired from, 6 years ago. Too cold to sail, not enough snow to ski. Earning some extra cash to pay professional carpenters and roofers to finish up the housenextdoor that I've got 90% finished, but am really tired of working on (2 years in). Plus, it takes 5 minutes to write a check. More sailing time when the good weather comes.
Also waiting on delivery of a welder for my wife. Hope we don't burn down the house.
Boats are all snug in their winter beds.

Winter months slipping by fast...
I have two new Bimini to make and a pedestal cover. Refinish the interior of Non-such 26 and do exterior teak, run remote VHF wire from helm to below deck nav station on Hunter 33, USB ports on Hunter 306, decommision Hunter 35.5 for road, and prep and paint approx 10 boats for bottom paint. Phew!
It'll happen, but days flying by!

Just bring the projects inside where it is warm :)

...or go pick up supplies at World Panel for future projects...I wasn't doing too bad with the cash gushing out of my wallet until they started loading the teak.

Mahogany, fir and okume for a Nutshell Pram build, and Skipper casually asked if they had teak for a deck chair.

you have a resaw or that just table saw work. resaw would save you quite a bit of lumber. and with a feeder its pretty quick. just curious.

that looks like it'll clean up pretty well. needs a little glass work but theyre great to work on if you have a garage or walk in basement. post up pics when youre done!
Sure will! I’ve been buying supplies and tools and toys. Can’t wait to start!

Started the rigging for the spin on the l2. Found a guy on etsy making launch bags so figured I'd give it a shot..just haven't had the space or time to build the chute and also make the new blades and still work. Baby steps and all. Hope to have the deck hardware and sheeveblock in next week from fogh. The pole has taken forever to show up from Selden.

Ordered 2 bottle ports from the dinghy shop and got those but I ordered the actual ports from vela and FedEx lost them..so waiting on resolution on that. Should have just ordered those from the dinghy shop too but these are all new places im ordering from and figured I'd give a few a try.

Still need a mast float for the sunfish..got the telescoping tiller extension for it. Mainsheet clips, new lines and still up in the air over block vs cam cleat like I already have..I do like the idea of cleating it in light wind for cruising. So probably leave that for now. Made the new rudder. Refinished the dagger.

I’m also working on a Nutshell pram. The spars, rudder, oars and dagger have been refinished. The hull is wrapped in a tarp and on sawhorses, waiting for the spring thaw. Won’t be too much longer!

Someone needs to draw those up in cad so they can be exported for cnc. It would be a lot of fun to build from a kit and easy to do. What do you do for a mast? Modern rigging?? There's a local guy here with a lathe bed to do really long stuff. Has done other mast stuff but that's pretty specialized stuff.

Nutshell Pram is off the molds, quarter knees next.

We always like to have at least 2 projects going, so we decided to build a decked pergola. The boat hauler was used to haul lumber for the last 3 days.

So far so good. Work was slowed down by the Skippervisor testing out the deck chair...

...and the hammock.

Our Catfish SMEDLEY will not live there, but we will install a little hoist in the pergola once it is finished, and the first customer will be SMEDLEY, she needs some hull repair for damage sustained during the move.

Contemplating quarter knees, gunwales and a keel. Cut from 4/4 mahogany, then planed to 3/4 inch thickness.

I haven't had a winter project because I am lazy. :^) But also our boathouse is boarded up against the storms, which makes getting in and out a pain. I'm hoping to get some work done on the sunfish in March/April. I want to replace all the foam, fix/replace broken trim and put a new bow handle on. No doubt I will be on here looking for advice in due course...

Because it is almost certainly waterlogged. The boat has got quite a bit heavier over the past few years. The plan is to do something like this:

Signal charlie is great at that fix, but his skill set is beyond master.

I would put ports in and start the drying process. You would have a couple months to dry.

I then would do a leak test to find d where the water is cong in and fix them.

Dick lives in England, where it (almost) always rains :)

Yep. Wavedancer is correct. I have already put ports in and always leave them open when the boat is not being sailed. Our boathouse is underground, so dry, but quite cold most of the time.

I am a fairly handy/practical person so I reckon I can do an ok job. I don't have anything to loose really.

We've been working on the new Carriage House over the Winter, 12x20 High Barn. Added the gangplank, windows, shelving and powered up with lots of electrical outlets and LED lighting.

If all goes right with Town Zoning, we'll buy this sister shed to house our wooden Alcorts and lapstrake runabout.

The Penobscot 14 got a new trailer, and EZ Loader Tilt Bunk. It would work great for Sunfish as well.

We added a 12x20 shed, now named HEUER GARAGE. Shed 1 is now named LEWIS BOAT WORKS.

The Alcort Alcove aka Sorg Shack. Adding 7000 lumen LED lights, 2 more to go. ZIP, WILLOW and WINNIE have staked their claims. I borrowed Skipper's pink duct tape while she wasn't looking.

Well not boat related but this is one of the final projects of the complete home renovation. Patched up where the television was mounted to the wall.
Also had some time to work with my cub scout on his pinewood derby car.DBB47C3D-75E2-4D76-BE23-2902199E626E.jpeg
