This old geezer has finally realized that he's not as young and agile as he once was. I've been sailing Sunfish since the early 1970's and just don't have the ability to easily trail, launch, sail and then reverse the process. Only sailed 5z or 6 times this past season although I'm in an area where I could sail year 'round. Gave my "fleet: (a 1973 and 1977 AMF Alcort boats in good condition, a registered and titled double trailer, sand dolly, almost brand new sails) to my daughter. I'm planning on joining a local Community Sailing group who have about 10 'fish and 10 or so Flying Scots. Much easier for me to sit in a boat rather than on it. It's been a blast over the years, though. I'll stay on this forum as I'm interested what the rest of you guys are doing! Merry Christmas and Happy 2022. Stay healthy.

I am now 87 and due to COVID my trips to the lake have been curtailed but I was enjoying my sunfish till I was about 84 .With the more frequent capsize I found getting back in the boat was getting more difficult. The boat will still remain part of the cottage fleet for all the younger family to use.

This forum once had a Miami-based member whose avatar showed his crossed ankles framed by a blue sky. The only way to get that shot was to sit in the cockpit.
'Course, you can't hike out, but, being seated keeps one's center of gravity low--stabilizing the boat. You also have pick a day to sail where whitecaps are scarce..
Consider sailing seated in a Sunfish as you age.
