Hello all, I have learned so much from reading other posts, but have a question. What is the best dry bag size/type to fit in a Sunfish cubby? I would like to have a place to keep misc. items, including snacks during a long sail or during a regatta. What is the best way to secure it? I also keep a small paddle and water bottle in the cubby and need a way to secure them as well.

Thanks for all of the help

I use two techniques to store items on my Sunfishes:
  1. I glued a stainless steel square eye plate to the inside wall of the cubby and then clip a short bungee cord to a waterproof box. I also clip a bungee cord to my emergency collapsable paddle to the same eye plate.
  2. I have an inspection port in the front wall of the footwell that allows me to stuff a small bag inside the hull of the boat.

Thank you Weston! Including the pics was very helpful.

I don't think THAT cooler is for sale!

For those on a budget, find a large plastic detergent container that just "jams" into the cubby. For ready access, cut a U-shaped "lid" in it. It's not waterproof, but the cubby stays relatively dry in a capsize--and even a "turtle". Once, my inexpensive "Trac-fon" got a little wet. After drying out, the screen displayed everything in reverse!

For my camera, I went to The Container Store, and located a squat waterproof plastic box that would fit a camera (or smartphone). The lid has a quarter-turn lid "lock" for instant access. That sealable container was glued securely to the forward cockpit bulkhead, so it was both handy--yet out of the way.

Photographs to follow this evening.

I put my stuff in a ziplock bag, tie a line around one corner, and put it in one of my hull ports. If it shifts around in the hull, I can still fish it out using the line.
