Inherited old sunfish and she needs some repairs!

I've got an old Sunfish that I'm slowly repairing. Last summer installed an inspection port and new gudgeon, and this year need to replace the sail! (It isn't even worth being repaired anymore...its in TERRIBLE shape.) Sailing is just for fun, and done whenever I can over the summer so I don't need anything for racing. I've seen a few on sunfishdirect that I like the look of but my main question is...do I also need to replace the sail ties? I've never removed the sail from the boom / upper boom before...nor put a new one on for that matter! Any tips?

The old rings don't take kindly to removal. :(

Some of the Sunfish I've acquired have regular shower curtain rings on the upper spar, and the boom carries a mix of old and new sail rings.

Shower curtain rings are packed a dozen to box, so finding a uniform set for a Sunfish is unlikely.

Intensity Sails have the ring set for $18.00 and their sails are $129.00. Good quality stuff. Check their website.

Hey tag. I was thinking about Tseng my sail back on. (Non racer). Is it ok to run one continuous small diameter line around the spar/boom passing through the next sail gromet each time around? Or is there a reason this is a fail or looking for trouble?

Yeah, that's a perfectly viable way to rig it, in fact it's "old school"---so no worries. SC has posted pics of this rigging method somewhere on this website, he can probably dig 'em up faster than anyone else. I thought about doing that with my Minifish, since some of the shower rings were cheesy... I think mine were actual shower rings from the Depot, lol.

New rings don’t seem too expensive, thankfully:
Those rings are clear, and to select a color would nearly double the price—although you can buy the colored rings as "singles".

Clear is boring. ;)

So, I just checked my shower curtain rings, and each ring displays a single scallop shell. 'Not a bad companion for the Sunfish logo, but they're all metal, and likely to rattle.

Anyone else? :D

That would be the "Marlin Hitch":

so I've got my new sail and rings! Hoorah! The sail has black stickers on both sides- little circles holding down a tiny bits of yarn- all red yarn on one side and all green on the other. Is this relaying critical information to me that i'm not understanding? Can I just...take the stickers off?
