How to not sail

He does a fairly decent job of staying calm. Other than that, he really needs to learn how to set up the rigging on his sail.

This location is about 40 minutes from where I live. On marine layer surge or just good sea breeze days, this area really rips. Particularly when there is fog piled up on the coast.

The wind was strong westerly but he launched from the lee of an area with large hills upwind, thinking the winds were lighter. He then ran/broad reached for some time downwind... further and further out into the strong flow. He got in way over his head.

Oh, that is a classic. It's been featured before on this forum, so I'm not re-watching it... just makes the viewer feel helpless.

I wonder if he learned anything from all that?

Based on his comments in the comment section, I don't think he learned a lot. He seemed proud of his survival and very defensive when given suggestions (such as of course I know how to cleat a line, when video evidence was to the contrary.)
