58 Mile Trip

Excellent job on the video!!! If you've read Melville & Twain, two of the titans of American Literature, then perhaps you've read THE SEA WOLF by Jack London, and my all-time favorite book TREASURE ISLAND by Robert Louis Stevenson. My favorite AUTHOR would be Nevil Shute, his stories are radical: try TRUSTEE FROM THE TOOLROOM, FAR COUNTRY, and A TOWN LIKE ALICE for starters, I reckon you'd enjoy 'em. PASTORAL is bad@$$ too, sailing and aviation share many common traits. I like Arthur Conan Doyle & C.S. Forester too, the Sherlock Holmes tales and the Hornblower saga are FREAKIN' EPIC, LOL. Reading the Hornblower stories is a good way for modern novices to learn more about sailing and the nautical world, aye? I recently watched "Captain Horatio Hornblower" with Gregory Peck, the library has heaps of DVDs and all loans are free... y'all know I'm a notoriously cheap b@stard, and I gotta have some relaxation time every night after pulling home rehab. I watched "The Guns of Navarone" last night, a classic Alistair MacLean potboiler in which Gregory Peck & Anthony Quinn demonstrated poor chimneying technique, LOL. WTF, most viewers back then wouldn't have known the difference, but each movie star's chimneying technique displayed $h!thouse style, LOL. No worries, I'm sure they laughed all the way to the bank... who needs STYLE when ya gots more MONEY than Chase Manhattan, 10-4?

P.S. When I drove a rental truck from Washington State to Arizona a few months ago, I nearly ran out of fuel TWICE, since the truck had one small fuel tank and I was routed through BFE, Oregon & Nevada. Like the pilot in PASTORAL, I throttled back to conserve fuel and coasted into fuel stops on absolute fumes, LOL. I also used that trick once or twice in my "trucking daze"---it works, and it keeps ya from riding shanks' mare, don'tcha know???

Thanks for reminding me to place my copies of Treasure Island and another work by Mark Twain on Craigslist.

It's been many years since I'd read either book, but it's time to reduce my library, and these two are "the jewels in the crown" of this collection. (And gold-leaf covers—hardly opened—perhaps because of their excellent condition.

Hey Everyone! I know it is late, but I have missed talking with everyone & finally just got done with the video! it to big to attach but I wanted y'all to be the first to see it!

Mississippi Sound Video

I thoroughly enjoyed the video, the tunes, and the journey. The lake where I sail in East Texas is tiny compared to the great big ocean but man am I inspired to go sailing! Thanks for sharing! You are not only a daring sailor but a dynamite storyteller too.

How did I miss watching this earlier? Great job of editing, and presenting the Big Picture! :)

Given a 14-foot boat, I think you've proved that dolphins don't "ride the bow wave", but just may be "tagging-along", as one's dog might.

You're certain those are dolphins?

Thank you man, that means so much to me. I appreciate you watching, I plan on doing more videos that I will definitely share with everyone. Here is the videos link on youtube :

Hahahahah you are so right. It was interesting, I have been sailing for along time but have never had dolphins tag along like that. It was a late night the night before, getting everything ready, so I was a bit sleep deprived lol but I was like man these dolphins are guiding me.

I am interested! pm me if you still have them!

So it begins... once ya pull such a voyage, ya gets to thinking about similar voyages elsewhere, or longer voyages, LOL. Why do ya think I kept sailing out to Los Coronados off the northern end of Baja? Don't know if you have any islands near you that are also wildlife sanctuaries, but those make EXCELLENT destinations... plus you'd catch some heller wildlife video. What about sailing down the Mississippi Delta? With a favorable forecast? Choose a route which suits you and your boat... bet there's some wildlife to be seen there. I know about pushing the envelope aboard small craft, but when ya do it right, plenty of options open up for you, the key is preparation and a good weather forecast.

Sounds like you've caught the long range fever, LOL... for many years, I never even THOUGHT about sailing the length of the Salton Sea, mainly because NOBODY does it nowadays, but once the idea took hold, I couldn't wait to get out there and do it. And I'm pretty sure I'm the ONLY FOOL to do it aboard a 12' Minifish, the class didn't even exist back in the Salton's heyday, LOL. So yeah, FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS, BRO, voyages & adventures like these will stay with you till you die, AYE??? I can still remember my initial island voyages with perfect clarity, and I often think about the magnificent scenery and solitude out there... solitude in terms of fellow man, there are THOUSANDS of sea birds, seals, sea lions, and other critters out there to keep ya company, LOL.

INCLUDING HUNGRY 2-TON GREAT WHITE SHARKS, BWAHAHAHAHA!!! CHOMP!!! GNASH!!! CRUNCH!!! GNASH!!! CHOMP!!!

so the video is posted on YouTube I may try to make a channel out of it if people are interested. Here is the link:
I also have an idea festering in my head... Maybe Fort Lauderdale to Bimini
Several years ago, the Coast Guard was called to rescue a Jet-Skier who had run out of gas—halfway to Bimini.

.

Hey, OP, where have ya been? I was hoping to see another long-range voyage on video... maybe you're hunkered down during this socialist plandemic. Hope ya haven't fallen on hard times, and here's to future voyages, aye? I'm resurrecting this thread so newbs to the site can check out your epic voyage, LOL.

CHEERS!!!

Edit: Holy Mackerel!!! Just watched this foiling Laser video, wonder how far you'd get aboard THIS boat, all other circumstances being equal? LOL...

Thanks, KJ. What a great little adventure. Such things make up a life. I love the dolphins! I remember seeing them off the bow of my aircraft carrier. These days, I'm lucky to see a carp, but still...sailing is living.

Hard to do when idiots like Newsom have outlawed recreational boating...

Somehow this reminds me of the old school bumper stickers: "SKATEBOARDING IS NOT A CRIME!!!"

I can just see myself in jail, surrounded by thugs & hardened felons, when one asks, "What did they charge you with, homie?"

Moi: "ER... FELONY LASER SAILING."

Hey everyone, I just wanted to check in! It’s been almost three years since the trip and I was reminiscing on the whole experience and the community here. I hope everyone has stayed dagger down and healthy since I last posted. Me and my family have been very fortunate, everyone is healthy and stable.

My job has been keeping me very busy so I haven’t sailed much or done any big adventures. However, the sea still calls my name and I still feel that itch to push my limits.

I would love to hear from everyone and do a friendly check in.
