Buying a used sunfish - first timer needs advice

Hello Everyone,

Like many of the people on this forum, I recently got my first taste of sailing and I’m pretty sure I’m addicted. Buying my first boat any day now. Looking at a used sunfish and got the following response from the seller. What are your thioughts on this opportunity? I’ve included a link to the CL add for clarification. They’re asking $600.

I put the ad in for a friend, who was away for some time.
They bought the boat new around 1982. The boat was always stored inside.
As far as I know the only damage years ago was a split in the deck seam, which was professionally repaired.
Accessories are fine, the hull is dry (was in storage for a long time).
The hull weighs 120 lbs. I do not have additional pictures.
My friend can be contacted after Saturday.

Looks like a boat that needs no work and the price is
correct. Only trick is physically getting to the boat
before someone else. If the hull does indeed weigh
120 lbs you got a real gem of a boat if none of the
foam blocks were removed.

That boat looks really nice in the pictures. Our old Sunfish needs some rehab but still sails okay and that one looks quite a bit better.
 
Agree. Don't call with a promise to be there in "x" minutes. Cash always "wins". Be there standing, even before it is promised to be available. Pay the wife—or dog-sitter! :cool:

Hmmm. That's about a four-hour drive from here. ;)
