Sunfish Purchase Advice

Sunny Sailor
Hey everyone, I was wondering where people buy their sunfish. Do you use the forum, what, etc. Down in the south east, especially upstate sc it's hard to find a sunfish. What do you guys look for in a purchase as well? Hope this is helpful to everyone.

I had good luck putting a wanted ad in Craigslist: "$350 offered, complete, but condition not important".

There's always one mildewing in someone's back yard--taking up space. You don't have to buy the first one you see, but the late model rudder is worth paying extra for. Should weigh less than 130 pounds, or expect to do some work. Holes in sails can be fixed with sail tape. Familiarity with fiberglass- or wood- repair is expected when buying a 45-year-old sailboat. Missing parts can make an otherwise good deal pricey.

Thanks for the advice, I'll put up something like that on Craigslist, hopefully I can find one, I enjoy working on them.

Most of the Sunfish I have purchased and sold have been through a Craigslist ad. A few have been sold via this web site. I have not used some of the other web sites or apps like Let Go. But here in New England Sunfish are still popular and there are many ads for Sunfish on Craigslist. Other areas of the country will be different so other advertising means may be more helpful. I am always surprised at the pricing especially the panhandle of Florida seems to command much higher prices for Sunfish.
