hi i say a laser 1 with a sail number 5995 is there any one out there with a sail number lower then this one.

101 is sitting in my yard and belongs to Megan Price. Bruce Kirby has 100 which was the first Laser. #102 belongs to Ward bell in New York City.
I have not ever heard about the location of 103 through 110.
I also have a 2000 series hull in my yard but it needs work and has not sailed since 1990.

Hi,
we had some talk about that already here and that is what I found with searching at TLF:

Just at my last sailing for this year at Oct-30th I saw an old Lasersail (the hull was a 39XXX), that had the original red number "6455". and was sewed by Elvtroem Ontario-CAN (the sail had the blue elvstoem-crown-sticker). It already has a window, so, it is not from the first boats. But, the sail was in pretty good condition, for its age :)
I told the Laserite (from NED) that owns that sail, he should be careful with that old sail, it is probably the oldest Lasersail in Europe. I offered him a new unused Hyde, but he didn't called me again at my mobile...

In the Foreword of Dick Tillmans book "godfather" ;) tells us, that his first Laser has the sailnumber "0" and now (since 1989) can be seen at the Mystic Seaport Museum (Mystic, Connecticut).

I own 4606 and 16000, both '74's. Nice dry stiff boats, freshwater use only.

And I raced 1041 from '75 thru '94 til I was lured into a shiny used '94 for the '95 season. I think I paid $250. for 1041 when it was 2 years old and it came with custom tiller/stick, compass, homemade blade bag, and 6 cotton sweatshirts with the sleeves cut off, lol.

Al Russell 182797

I've seen 2 '74s, don't know what the #'s are. My boat's 38776, a 76, but almost brand-new. Still shiny and everything. No soft spots, holes, even gelcoat has no major scratches/repairs. Oh, and i have the original sail with it. That sail still has pretty good shape!

Hi guys, long tiome since ive been on,

My first laser 144679 i got when i was 14 and was a 1991 boat i beleive

i now sail 182618 new and delivered to me from the factory 11th march 2005

I recently bought a '77 sail# 47695 with original sail(blown out).Hull and deck vary sound. Also have what Fogh Marine believes to be a first year Radial Rig.

mine is a 95 with the sail number 155552 and it looks like new. i love it but i am tempted to get a new one but the one missing thing is money. if only it grew on trees.

Welcome back, Jon. Reckon you've been sailing, and the season is over?

Hey Merrily aye ive been spending alot of time trying to get up the front of the fleet i finally start to get there and the bloody season comes to an end, sods law eh?
moved upto the full rig now as well,

ive also started work this year as well, ive had a bit of spear time and thought what do i wanna do? the answers simple... TLF

Last year I bought 152921 (a 1996) to replace 44990 ( a 1977). For a while I had both at the same time. Comparing them was interesting - I could knock on the underside of each and hear the difference. The newer one, which felt much stiffer under sail, had a much higher pitch when I knocked on it, like a tight drum head. The older one sounded distinctly duller.

On the subject of old stuff, I was walking on the beach about three weeks ago and found a Laser sail washed up on the shore. Sail number 6504. The seams are packed full of sand, and you can tell it's been lying on the bottom of the sea for a long time because its brown and smells like a dead fish. Amazingly it's not torn though. Maybe I'll bleach it white again and sell it on eBay.

I've not got 52225, after sailing (IIRC) the brand-new 166786 when I was serious, and having some other old boat in between.

We here in Australia seem to change our boats regularly, perhaps because resale value is so good that it's as cheap to trade in each season as it is to get a new sail and lines. But the old boats rarely race at regattas. For example out of about 126 other boats on the regatta this weekend there were two 140,000s, about two 150,000s or two, and everything else was 160K up.

I'm not training in Lasers these days but the old girl's floppy but quick. It was our biggest Masters district title ever but the fact that two of the oldest boats were about 3rd and 6th indicates that we maybe should get the word around that those with older boats can do well if they turn up.

Hi guys, long tiome since ive been on,
my first login in a good few months... my boat that ive been working on is #9572

its almost done, the hull looks great with a brand new blue awlgrip finish... all i need to do is instal the deck fittings, finish my centerboard, and re-rivet the mast... thats IT!... my boat will be done! all it will need to race is a new pair of sails, concidering that the ones i have are from the orig. boat...

p.s. if you didnt know, this boat has been in my family since we bought it in '73 or so, i got it just over the summer and decided to put it back togeather...

Welcome back to you too Chris. A pair of sails?

Merrily

I'm racing 21002 (1974). I have the original sail, 9XXX (both with sewn on numbers), 1 radial sail new for the past season (~20 hours of training on it, one small one day regatta) and a new radial for next year :)

Painted Silver Awlgrip with white deck. I must say, it's the nicest '74 around ;)

My hull number is 1945. its an old performance sailcraft (CAN) oat year I believe is 1971 or 1972. But its not the oldest one Ive seen. I raced in the Cooper river frostbite series and hull #297 was racing there as well.

I have another sail on mine so its not the original numbers, but, Im getting a new laser in March for the upcoming season as ill be taking racing a bit more serious.

Is my Laser first year production?

I have a very old 70's Laser serial number 18xx under the bow eye. No markings on transom. From this thread I gather that this may be a first year production boat. Am I correct in this?

I am planning to sell it on eBay shortly - is there any collector value to first year production boats?

When I was a teenager, my Dad and I picked up #1256 still in the box. (from Windsor, Ontario). God I loved that boat. Raced the crap out of the thing. I'm embarassed to say I sold it in college when I was really broke. I think I got $400 for it. What a goof.

I now sail 66236. It was pretty rough when my wife bought it but it's all up to snuff now. I even made my own carbon tiller from scratch. Look out Old Farts of Canada! You don't stand a chance!
