Tiller too long?

Has anyone found that their tiller gets in the way when tacking? When sailing with two in the boat I have moved the tiller back 6 inches and still find moving from one side to another is awkward. Any suggestions or just get use to it. Thanks
Barry

Is your crew moving to the other side of the boat forward of the Barney post on your tacks/gibes? If you're both behind the Barney post it will be too crowded. Also (forgive me, but I don't know your experience level), are you making the tiller exchange behind your back on your tacks/gibes? Until I learned to do that I almost never had a successful maneuver .

thanks for reply. crew is in in front of Barney post and moving side to side. I am moving tiller behind back tacks/gibes. But i am not an experienced sailor. I am wondering if the boat was set up for single handed saililng, hence long tiller, and extension. I will pay attention to technique and see if that will help. tiller is 3.5 ft long and with extension 5 ft
