Gul hiking pants

The Sea are good but you might want the ones a bit longer that cover your knees. I find that the extra grip is good if you've got to kneel forward to push the main out or if you put your knees down in the cockpit. If there's any grit in the bottom it can dig into your knees. Ouch!

Thanks for the advice. I've been sailing in just swimming trunks and thus see the obvious need for something to make hiking more comfortable. It's not clear to me how the Gul is more suited for big boat sailing, but if I had used any type of hiking pants before it might be clearer to me. I had hoped to be able to wear these over a wet suit or dry suit depending on conditions. Perhaps they will be hard to keep in place?

I remember fondly my OK Dinghy (40 years ago) that had such nicely curved gunwales, allowing one to sit hiked way out for a long time in comfort. The flexible mast, mid boom main sheet, and pivoting center board were nice features, too. Back in those days as a youngster, I didn't have the funds for a Laser, but could afford a used OK. I'm fairly new to Lasers and must say that I do appreciate the boats characteristics more each time I sail it. It's really a fun boat to sail!

You spend a lot of time on your knees sailing a Laser, so hiking shorts/longs with knee pads are recommended :). The Gul hikers are really quite good, love 'em.

While waiting for the hikers that I referenced in my first post to this thread, I decided to order a pair of the Gul Evolution 3mm 3/4 length hkers from Intensity. These arrived first so I have been able to try them and they do seem to work nicely. I can see the benefit of having the part that covers the knees.

Finally, my original order for the Gul Kinetic Pro Short Hikepants arrived. I will be a week or more before I can try these, but they do seem like they can be used over a dry suit satisfactorily. That was my hope for them. I do wish the battens were a bit longer, but we'll see how well they work.

The Gul Kinetic Pro Short Hikepants look like they'd be good for keelboat hiking.

My Rooster hikers with armour are great. My season: three races, two back to back, F4.5+ and by second race can see some of the competition in wetsuit only waring down. I did have a small problem with one set, didn't ask for a new set, and Rooster insisted on sending a new pair asap.

Gul code zero hikers areamazing - couldn't fault them. There not to hot in the summer if worn with just a tee but in the winter they will keep you nice and warm with a decent splash top and they come up nice and high so your chest stays warm is you go in + if you get rolled to windward while hiking you don't get the water run down your spine. Plenty of armour on your knees, shins and bum as well as different combinations of pads. Great hikers
