Beach Launch Catalina/Capri 14.2?

Hello Capri experts;

I'm a newbie to the forum and am requesting the help of you experienced with the boat. I am shopping for a daysailer for 1-3 people to sail in 8-15 mph light winds of Santa Barbara, CA. The Catalina/ Capri 14.2 is one boat on my short list (Lido 14 also), but I know little about it.

1.) Can I beach launch the Capri 14.2, off of the trailer (I want to park the boat on the beach on a trailer, as permitted by my local city government)?

2.) Can I reasonably push (singlehanded) the Capri on the trailer the 50 yards to the beach from its parking spot, if I install large baloon beach tires on the trailer?

3.) Also, if anyone has suggestions for alternative daysailer boats, please let me know (high on my priorities are staying dry and the boat being light enough to push through loose sand on a trailer. I'm not concerned about racing.). The water here is cold, so I don't want to have to wear a wetsuit when I sail and can hopefully remain reasonably dry.

Any input is helpful and welcome.
Thanks!, Bill

A Seitech dolly would be better than a trailer. The Dolly is lighter in weight, has the right tires for sand and is lower slung for easier launching and retrieval. Being the boat and dolly would weigh in at 400ish pounds (guessing) , you might need help unless you're a horse.

Lido is a great boat.

Beach Launch 14.5?

A Seitech dolly would be better than a trailer. The Dolly is lighter in weight, has the right tires for sand and is lower slung for easier launching and retrieval. Being the boat and dolly would weigh in at 400ish pounds (guessing) , you might need help unless you're a horse.

Lido is a great boat.

Fan: Thanks for the suggestion, that's a good idea. I see that a Seitch Dolly is made for the Capri 14.5:

I sail my 14.2 out of Ventura Harbor, if you would like to go out with me on a Saturday or Sunday to see what the 14.2 is all about. Let me know. I am 61 years old and have sailed my little boat 23 times, 3 of which have been solo.

Capri 14.2 beach launch?

I sail my 14.2 out of Ventura Harbor, if you would like to go out with me on a Saturday or Sunday to see what the 14.2 is all about. Let me know. I am 61 years old and have sailed my little boat 23 times, 3 of which have been solo.

gregwcoats: Thanks for your generous offer for me to tag along on a sail on your 14.2. I am rarely in Ventura, so I don't think I'll take you up on that one. Can you tell me if you remain dry, or relatively dry on a typical 10-15 mph day on the Pacific, with 1-2 foot chop (typical summer conditions in Santa Barbara)? Your conditions in Ventura are not too much different than up here, although I think you tend to get a stiffer breeze and bigger waves there.
Thanks again,
Bill

I would say 15k is the max I would want to sail in. I have yet to get wet, but at 61 years old I tend to sail on the conservative side. Really the only way you would get wet is if you pushed the envelope and capsized. The boat itself is quite dry to sail.
