Fatso carbon tiller extension

How does the Fatso carbon tiller extension fit on to the carbon XD tiller? The extension has a joint at the end with two holes that match up to the two screws on the end of the tiller, but the holes don't go all the way through the joint. It looks like it should open out somhow, but I can't see how.

There's a base (bottom piece in the pic) that is fastened to the tiller.
The extension has the universal and the cover (the remaining two pieces). The universal slides under the base and the cover is snapped over the universal and the base to keep the universal from sliding out again....

Great, thanks for your help - it looked like the parts should come out of the base of the extension joint, but I didn't want to force it.
