USA 1909 Yellowtail is For Sale.

1979 TSP boat located in Columbia, SC at CSC.

Yellowtail is close to race ready. Modifications include:

Bottom painted & faired 2011. Keel is close to perfect. Max forward w/in 3mm. James Howard faired & adjusted keel in 2011.

The boat was measured in 2010. Vermiculite has since been removed, cabin sole is still original and technically needs the teak&holly sole to measure in. After the vermic job the boat is light and will require corrector weights to measure in, but other than that the boat will measure in as-is.
Original mast is in average condition & has been cut to min height, upgraded spreader bars are min length & proper angle. Needs mast chock upgrade.

Front hatch is old style but has been reinforced. Rear hatch is original and needs upgrading. Deck is slick but solid with minimal balsa core damage, although there are spots that need addressing.

Lazarettes are somewhat soft and need upgrading.
Upgraded traveler bar with footrest & windward sheeting car. (2010)

Genoa tracks are original, blocks are non-lopez and need replacing. Barient winches need to be moved, but are in good working order.

Stanchions are cut to minimum height & rear stanchions have been reinforced. Lifelines are old. Toerails are original and are in very poor condition. Motor mount is original and is in poor condition. Rudder is marginal & will need replacing.

Motor is 2010 Yamaha 4 stroke in excellent condition although it is heavy.

Sails - 3 sets. A set is 2011 Quantum Main, Genoa & Kite with 5 regattas. They are in B+ condition. Plus, there are 2 sets of old North Sails that are in C condition, perfectly passable for club racing and crusing.
Running rigging is all in good to excellent condition - New main halyard, jib halyard & spin halyard 2010, although the spin halyard sheave needs attention.

The boat is fundamentally sound, and with some attention and money can be made race ready. It is an ugly yellow color, but if you're buying a J24 for its looks, you're in need of a mental evaluation.

It's a great boat for someone who wants to either club race or cruise or someone who wants to put a bit of time and money into making a race ready boat.
The boat is on a borrowed trailer at present, and the price is for the boat only. The original trailer is for sale separately, but it has a broken axle and would only be sold with a signed waiver as it is not safe to travel with.

Shame on you! The J24 is the best looking boat ever made - even yellow ones are not ugly but there are better colors - like gray.
