N O T I C E O F R A C E
1 RULES
1.1 The Regatta will be governed by the Rules as defined in The Racing
Rules of Sailing.
1.2 The “US Sailing Selection Procedure for the 2007 Pan AM Games”
shall apply and may be found at www.ussailing.org/olympics/PanAm/ for
reference.
2 ADVERTISING
Advertising shall be restricted to Category A in accordance with ISAF
Regulation 20, Advertising Code, and the relevant class rules.
3 ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY
3.1 NATIONALITY
Only individuals eligible to represent the United States (US citizens) in
the Pan American Games are eligible to participate in the Trials and are
governed by the USSA Selection Procedure for the 2007 Pan AM Games.
3.2 US SAILING MEMBERSHIP
Membership in US SAILING is required for each competitor. USSA members are
requested to bring their membership card to registration for verification.
Competitors may sign up at registration or join online at
www.ussailing.org/membership.
3.3 USSCA MEMBERSHIP
Membership in US Sunfish Class Association is required for each
competitor.
Members are requested to bring their membership card to
registration for verification.

*Questions regarding an opportunity to compete in the Pan Am Trials

4 BOATS/MEASUREMENT
4.1 Competitors are encouraged to bring their own boats.
4.2 Competitors will be responsible for their boats being in compliance
with the class rules.
4.3 Boats will be available for charter from “The Dinghy Shop”.

5 FEES
Competitors shall register in advance by completing the Regatta Entry Form
attached on Addendum 1 and submitting it with proof of US SAILING and USSCA
membership. The Entry deadline is September 15, 2006. A social fee of $70
will include water and snacks (on the water), a light breakfast, dinner
Friday and Saturday, and lunch on the water. Additionally, for those who
register in advance and pay the fee by September 1, 2006, a Pan Am Trials
Polo shirt will be supplied. Those not registered by September 1 may
purchase a Pan Am Trials Polo shirt for $35 on special order.
6 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

8 PENALTIES FOR BREAKING Rule 42
Appendix P, Immediate Penalties for Breaking Rule 42, will apply with P2.2
and P2.3 deleted.
9 COURSES AND RACING AREA
Courses will be Trapezoid, Triangle, Windward-Leeward or a combination
thereof.
The racing area will be in the Great South Bay waters south of Blue Point,
Long Island New York.
10 SCORING
Five (5) races shall be completed to constitute a series. A maximum of
twelve (12) races are scheduled. If fewer than six (6) races are
completed, a boat's series score will be the total of her race scores
without discard; this changes RRS A2. If six (6) races but less than
twelve (12) races are completed, a boat's series score will be the total of
her race scores excluding her worst score subject to rule 89.3(b). If
twelve (12) are completed, a boat's series score will be the total of her
race scores excluding her two (2) worst scores subject to rule 89.3(b).
In the event that five (5) races are not completed the series will be
postponed and resumed in the first two weeks of May at a date to be
announced.
11 SAFETY
A US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device shall be worn, properly
fastened, at all times while launching and when sailing. Failure to comply
with this rule can result in disqualification as deemed appropriate by the
protest committee. A boat retiring from a race shall notify a Race
Committee vessel before leaving the course, or when that is impossible,
immediately after arrival ashore.
12 DRUG TESTING
The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) may conduct doping control. However, all
Pan Am Team Members will be subject to doping control within 120 days of
the start of the Games. Information on drugs and medications and about
doping control may be obtained by calling the USADA Drug Reference Line at
1-800-233-0393, or the USADA web site www.usantidoping.org .
13 PRIZES
US Sailing medals will be awarded to competitors placing first through
third in the regatta.
14 RISK
It is the competitor's decision to enter the regatta and to start or
continue any race. The competitors are ultimately responsible for the
risks. The competitor will accept full responsibility for all his/her
actions during any activity related to the event. This includes on-shore
activities before, during, and after the regatta.
