My previous owner had installed a 24" extension and I swapped it for a 32" that I had,
and found that I was always holding it at or below the middle and it was getting involved with the mainsheet at the barney post if it was forward or with the mainsheet/traveller if I had it pointing aft when tacking.
I cannot speak to what impact one's arm length would have in this, but at 6'2" I never needed the longer length since the Capri seems to turn with very little rudder. My boat's PO was a half foot shorter than me and I'm assuming the 24" extension had worked okay for him.
