Telltale Positioning

drLaser has conducted an analysis of where world's sailors put their telltales during the 2002 worlds at Hyannis.

Click this link for article if you are an ILCA member.

This however is for ILCA members only. I won't spill the beans but for steering tales you need them so they form an isosceles triangle with the top, front corner of the window and the red square near the cunningham grommet with the laser logo on. Go about 50cm to 60cm above these two points for the correct height.

Leech Tufts

These are for tuning the vang/kicker and if you want to use them, attach a tell tale to the end of the top batten. On the radial sail, these seem very sensitive, almost too sensitive so if you sail a radial, think twice about using them because they'll annoy you. Unless you are really into sail tuning, leech tales are not necessary.
