Self bailer repairs

My Laser II has broken the fiberglass between the hull and the cockpit in the area around the auto bailer. This started out small and apparently let water into the hull which I drained after each use. However recently little bits of black colored wood have come out of the drain hole. Is there wood inside the hull? What is its function? Any ideas on how the autobailer can be repaired?

Thanks

I suppose it depends on how old your boat is. I guess some of the older ones could have wood on the inside with a coating of fibreglass outside - I know that has been done in some classes. Mine is over ten years old and is pure fibreglass though. I can't really think where else the wood would be from.

It sounds like you should maybe get a professional to take a look at the boat. If it's just the bailer itself that needs replacing you could probably do that yourself, however from the sounds of it you have more damage than that which is probably not fixible by you unless you know what you are doing.
