Super Opinionated and Always Correct
The cold front mashed itself over Lake Ray Hubbard last night just as it has for nearly every Thanksgiving weekend since Mary Helen Edecomb's Longhorn Yacht Racing Association began hosting the North American Interdistrict Championships in 1984.

Once again in 2010 Laser and Laser Two Stalwarts and rock stars like Steve Bourdow, Mark Salih, Paul Forester, Hank Kleespies, Nick Adamson, Mark Mendelblatt, Eric Faust, Ian Lineberger, Eric Robbins, Eric Johnson, Jim Elvhart, Chris Cook, Clay Johnson, Marcus Maher, Gary Orkney, Ian Bruce, Charlie Smythe, Mattia D'Errico, Peter Katcha, Brett Davis, Peter Pearce, Doug Peckover, Mark Lammens, Rosalyn Mead, Andy Casey, ...and on and on and on..

...are wherever they are today and might even remember how the NA Laser sailing game once had leaders who would take the time and effort to organize and publicize and contact people and follow up as many times as necessary to make certain a huge quality fleet of sailors from as many districts as possible would show up and race in the North American Interdistrict Championships for bragging rights and possesion of the Bruce Cup..

The event was last contested in 2001 at Buffalo Canoe Club and won by District 3.
It is likely any resurrection of the Bruce Cup would be contested in Lasers, Radials and 4.7 rigs with a possible inclusion of the 29er or someday the FYLIBMO as a doublehander relacement for the once popular Laser Two. . . There will NOT be four twinkies invited.

After realizing there were eleven LYRA alumni sailors in the most recent Olympics, some of us are becoming aware how important LYRA was and still is to sailboat racing in North America.

In her Thanksgiving interview by this author for this thread, Mary Helen Edegecomb said, "I would love to see someone host another Bruce Cup."

Here's hoping someone or group of someone's can realize the importance of developing top quality racing in North America and make it so.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
