New Spar ?

I recetly did an overhall of my 1976 Sunfish (new sail, gelcoat repair, new clips, bailer, and wire travler). I am very happy with the results but I happend upon a new Sunfish and was taken aback by the bend in the spar at the foot of the sail. I assume this is to improve sail shape in light wind? What advantages do I have in updating my spar?

How new was that 'new' Sunfish? New spars (out of the box) are supposed to be straight. Perhaps the 'new' Sunfish that you happened upon had been raced hard, or sailed in a major blow?
