Mini Fish sail, boom/spar mounted with sail rings and line, Mast, Gooseneck, plus dagger board for sale. Last time I looked was in good shape. Probably you must be local. I still have hull for free to buyer, needs lots of TLC. and HUGS.

    Bonjour,
I've just started sailing again after a very long time........."back to school" in fact. I couldn't find a Sunfish over here but I've come across a really good 1983 Minifish ( that's had loads of TLC and HUGS ) which I'll pick up in August. I just have a question if it's ok ?............How does it "work" with the hiking strap "the wrong way round ?"
    Regards

Mini has a shorter hull, smaller cockpit, and smaller sail.

Operation wise its essentially the same as the Sunfish.

Of course with the different hull you can't make it meet the Sunfish class requirements for one-design racing.

I think the hiking strap is decorative...
I have a mini and its just annoying at best.

The rental Sunfish I sailed had the hiking straps removed.... So I can't really compare.

I would offer that the Minifish hiking strap is somewhat important to the design. The Minifish has a one piece deck/cockpit tub design unlike the Sunfish that that has a deck that overlaps a separate cockpit tub. When sailing you can always put your feet under the lip of the deck to keep from falling out of the boat. With the Minifish design. the only way to "attach" your feet is to use the hiking strap. The Laser has the same design and is similarly dependent on the hiking strap.

Lots of dinghy classes have transverse mounted hiking straps. I have seen Thistles and Lightnings with this rig.
