Although the Race Committee brought forward the time of the first start by two hours to 11.00am, the usual thermal breeze did not materialize before 1.30pm. In light southerly winds of 5-6 knots the Race Committee managed to run two races for the standard fleet but only one for the radials and the 4.7s. The race course was set close to the club-house so the public could really enjoy the racing. In the standard fleet the winner was Alessandro Meraga ITA, followed by Stig Steinfurth DEN and Jordi Capella ESP. For the radials the overall winner was Giovanni Coccoluto ITA, followed by Michelle Broekhuizen NED and Sydney Bussard SUI. Finally, for the 4.7s the overall leader-board looked like Benjamin Vadnai HUN, Mehmet Turkmen TUR and Sebastien Schneiter SUI. Results are posted on the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano web-site. See you next year!

Lugano Europa Cup – Day 3 (ILCA)

Day 3 of the Lugano Europa Cup regatta was a carbon-copy of the second day. Two good races in the Gandria canal, in 8-10 knots of southerly breeze. Then dinner in the sunset.

After three days of racing the leader-boards look like, for the 4.7: Benjamin Vadnai HUN, Mehmet Turkmen TUR, and Sebastien Schneiter SUI; for the radials: Giovanni Coccoluto ITA, Michelle Broekhuize NED and Bussard Sydney SUI, and for the standards: Alessandro Marega ITA, Dore de Morcier SUI and Stig Steinfurth DEN.

For most of the sailors tomorrow is going to be the last day, in a two weeks long quite tiring series.

Lugano Europa Cup – Day 2 (ILCA)

A sunny and warm day awaited the competitors the second regatta day, and, also unfortunately, a complete lack of wind. After a long wait mostly on water, as predicted, late afternoon came a SSW breeze of around 8-10 knots. Conditions were tricky and difficult, but two races could be complete for all fleets. The sun was already setting when the sailors came ashore. In almost all races we have got new winners. For the standards Otso Ahvonen FIN and Alessandro Marenga ITA, already in plain sunset, won a race today. As far as the radials are concerned Giovanni Coccoluto ITA and Michelle Broekhuizen NED got a bullet today, while the winners of the day in the 4.7 fleet were Sebastien Schneiter SUI and Gregorin Zeno ITA. In plain twilight sailors were offered a well deserved pasta party. Overall quite a tiring day. Results will come up later overnight on the event web-site.

Lugano Europa Cup – Day 1 (ILCA)

After a short delay, early afternoon came the predicted southerly breeze of around 6 to 8 knots, so AP was lowered and the 162 competitors went afloat. Due to the shifty conditions two tricky but good races for all fleets could be run. The 74 sailors strong 4.7 fleet is lead by Benjamin Vadnai HUN who won both races, for the 66 radials Sydney Bussard SUI és Giovanni Coccoluto ITA recorded a bullet, while in the smaller standard group with 22 entries Capella Jordi ESP and Marega Alessandro ITA were the race winners today. Detailed results can be found on the club web-site.
