Shoreline Aquatic Center (Fleet 22) held a successful invitational regatta here on Shoreline Lake in Mountain View, CA on
November 13th, 2004. Our Sailboat Racing Club (9-15 year old sailors) hosted the well established Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation (PYSF),
a unification of high school teams (who took a break from their usual Flying Juniors and 420s this weekend) on southwest San Francisco Bay coached by Eric Anderson.

A total of 8 windward/leeward races were run on a crisp afternoon with 8 to 10 knot fading breezes. All 10 of Shoreline Aquatic Center's Capri 14.2s were utilized. The Shoreline Sailing Club, in its first season and many of the members competing in their first ever regatta, did fairly well. Before the PYSF completely trounced us in mass, some of our new sailors were invited to crew for the advanced PYSF sailors. Some helmed whilst being given pointers by the PYSF crew.

Of our Fleet 22 Club members, Allister and Benjamin sailed extremely well in their first regatta placing mid-fleet. Arie, Matt, Nick, and Nikhil all sailed with PYSF members to learn quite a bit including race starts and roll tacks. Kasia and Sarah gained favorable exposure to racing. Later they split to crew for PYSF and picked up on a few pointers as well. Ian and Aleister overcame the early butterflies associated with the anticipation of competing against such a high ranked PYSF team. They were among the most consistent sailors. Alex crewed for our head coach, Sulaiman Hyatt (a.k.a. Captain H or "the Fonz") and picked up a few second and third places thus building confidence.
We are eagerly looking forward to a reciprocal invitational regatta hosted by the Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation in the Port or Redwood City on December 18th, 2004. Although this was our first regatta, we're still practicing every weekend on Shoreline Lake as we have our sights set on attending the 2005 Capri Nationals in San Diego.
