Easy Inexpensive Adjustable Gooseneck

The lightbulb went on the other day when I had to replace the gooseneck adjustment screw because the top was getting all buggered up.

For those recreational sailor like myself who want a quick adjusting gooseneck without spending the $$ for the real thing you can use a short stainless steel eyebolt.

Get one with the right threads on it and also get a stainless steel nut. You want the threaded part to be just long enough not stick through too far after you have threaded the nut all the way down to the eye and then thread it into the gooseneck where the old screw was. The nut provides a nice stopping surface like the head of the old screw. The eye of the bolt acts like a big thumbscrew.

Just make sure the eye end of the bolt has no sharp edges and if it does take a file to it.

It was a $1.66 at my hardware store!
