Job Responsibilities
Summer Season 2015
The Head Sailing Instructor oversees CGRA’s beachfront operations and logistics for the summer
season to support CGRA’s busy summer schedule of learn to sail events, championship regattas, and
performance clinics. Working closely with the Event Manager, and with CGRA board members and
volunteers, the HSI is responsible for many day-to-day activities to meet variable event needs.
Flexibility, enthusiasm, a willingness to get it done, and ability to work with volunteers and other CGRA
staff are essential attributes. US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certification or above is a requirement.
Learn to Sail Instructing & Coaching
CGRA runs 3 to 5 sessions per week in the late afternoon and early evenings, plus some prep time
and take down time. Schedule can be variable due to class attendance, or private lessons.
 Learn to Sail. Beginning through Intermediate sailing classes on a drop in basis and multi-
week basis. Flexible instruction tailored to the attendees each week.
 Junior Sailing Team. Restricted practice time for Junior sailors with at least Intermediate skills,
and ability to rig and launch their boat without assistance. A varied mix of coaching including
directed skills drills, fun activities, and open free sailing.
 Community Sailing. Open community sailing. Boats are available for any community member
to go sailing, experienced sailors (mostly Junior Sailing Team participants) help rotate the
boats and sailors from the beach with help from volunteer parents. Light coaching/instruction,
mostly on the water safety. Community members host a popular pot-luck for all comers on the
beach.
 Performance Clinics. Assist with coaching during adult and youth Laser clinics, Opti clinic, and
O’pen Bic clinic.
Assistant Instructor Mentoring and Coach in Training Program (CIT)
Mentor assistant coach(es) and develop their coaching and teaching skills. In coordination with the
Event Manager, implement a CIT program for Junior Sailors. Introduce them to Race, Event, and
Learn to Sail operations including helping with event & boat prep, Race Committee, mark & safety
boat assistance and Learn to Sail instruction assistance.

Race Committee and Logistics
Work closely with the Event Manager to coordinate and support the varied events. Assist with Race
Committee duties, mark and safety boat operation, providing shore radio support, help with registration
and event prep logistics as needed.
Event Prep & Lock up
Manage self and volunteers to accomplish the daily event prep of RC boats, chase boats, RC flags,
marks, radios, distributing boat keys, gassing up boats, boat cleanup and put away at end of day, and
lock-up CGRA and Marina facilities.
