boom height

Took the new boat out today and all went pretty well, except for the ugly bit of trying to get clear of the dock.

Right away we noticed the boom was lower on this boat that the ones the Sailing Club taught us on. In fact I lost a hat.

What height should the boom be for beginners like us?

To adjust I assume just tie the halyard lower on the jib.
(listen to me throw out these sailing terms)

ps; boy was that fun!!!!

Adjust the halyard position on the gaff so that the boom is at a height that is 'comfortable' for your kind of sailing.
Once you get accustomed to the boat, you can lower the sail plan for stronger winds, but you may have to duck when the boom flies over during a tack or jibe.
