A Perfect Nationals!

Once again, San Diego's Mission Bay fulfilled its promise of ideal sailing weather. With sunny skies, temperature in the mid-70's, and breezes ranging from 7 to 12 knots, you couldn't ask for better conditions for the 20 boats that came to race on Sept. 19-20. Four fleets were represented, Mission Bay, Lake Mission Viejo, Westlake, and Arizona.
The action actually started on Friday evening, with a Ladies at the Helm race. Six boats turned out for this one. The winners were:

1st Place - Samantha Olenick, Skipper, and Kevin Olenick, (MBYC)
2nd Place - Lisa Lake, Skipper, and Rick Lake, Crew (Arizonia fleet)

The main action started on Saturday with 4 races, then a great dinner, followed by 3 races on Sunday. The big event after dinner was a door prize drawing, with more than enough goodies for each team. Our thanks go to Catalina Yachts, Fast Lane Sailing, and to the Olenicks who raided their San Diego gift shops for some really innovative prizes.
The racing was fast and a bit knarly when the wind kicked up on the last race, capsizing two boats. Three sailors and a chase boat crewman ended getting a bit scarfed up, but fortunately none seriously.
Now for the trophy winners (skippers listed first, crews second):

GOLD FLEET CLUB

1st - Scott Finkboner - Ryan Hopps MBYC
2nd - Samantha Olenick - Kevin/Parker Olenick MBYC
3rd - John Mayall - Megan Mayall AYC
4th - Mike Hester - Sarah Hester AYC

SILVER FLEET

1st - Angus Henderson - Morgan Henderson MBYC
2nd - Fred Johnston - Akane Nakagaki MBYC
3rd - Ross Elena - Susan Kelsey WYC

Lastly our special thanks to our PRO, Brian Anderson, and to all the hard-working volunteers on the committee boats.
