The following was posted by Gary Bodie (US Sailing coach) regarding qualification for the 2005 US Sailing Team. I am reposting here for those that are interested (and eligible):
This message is a preview of the Ranking System for the 2005 US SAILING Team. The OFFICIAL and FINAL system will be published by e-mail and on the US SAILING web site by mid December. This message may be forwarded to wider distribution class lists.
I have been in discussion with the Class Representatives to the Olympic Sailing Committee (OSC) since last spring. Our conversation has been based on parameters approved by the OSC which included (1) No Ranking Regattas prior to 1 Jan 2005, and (2) All systems must include and count the 2005 Rolex Miami OCR, and (3) the class system could be one, two, or three regattas.
Obviously this discussion depends on the selection of the specific classes by ISAF for the 2008 Olympics.
We have reached preliminary agreement on the following:
Laser; Miami OCR, Midwinters East and Midwinters West. Must count Miami and one of the other two regattas. Note: Midwinters West is also the US qualifier for the ISAF Youth Worlds.
Europe; Miami, Lauderdale Midwinters and ABYC OCR. Must count Miami and one of the other two regattas.
Finn: Miami and Lauderdale Midwinters. Must count both regattas. Note: Finn class is still considering whether to have a two or three regatta system.
Mistral M&W; Miami OCR only.
470 M&W; January Ranking Regatta and Miami OCR. Must count both regattas.
49er; January Ranking Regatta and Miami OCR. Must count both regattas
Tornado; North Americans (Jan 05 Miami), Miami OCR, and Feb Ranking Regatta. Must count Miami and one of the other two regatta.
Star; Still under discussion due to the close scheduling of the 2005 Star Worlds. Could be Miami OCR only.
Yngling; January Ranking Regatta and Miami OCR. Must count both regattas
